Chapter 8 - Lackey's Leash

Orin yanked his hand away from Scar's grip. "It's just dirt."

He snatched the black cloth away from Scar and started tying his hand up again.

Scar stepped back, staring at Orin. The boy was simply getting even stranger by the day.

Orin was done with every chore given to him a short time, to the amazement of Scar who had taken the 'watch over him' job to another level. His presence was starting to annoy Orin.

Orin remembered the old man, it was about time they were supposed to meet. He needed to get out of here, bit Scar definitely wouldn't let him. He needed a distraction.

Orin raised his hand, staring at the black cloth that hid the tattoo.

"What's that? You planning something...rat?" Scar berated, looking him over.

Orin didn't even take a glance at Scar. "Should I just knock him out?" However, that would be worsening matters. What happens when he gets back? Scar would definitely tell the Matron.

Scar was instantly irritated, being ignored by someone who he considered below him.

"Hey...Rat!" Scar swung his fists at Feng, but Orin was quick to react, he threw his hand forward quickly, blocking the attack.

However, he didn't use his right hand, so he didn't receive any boost from the tattoo. And without it, Scar was significantly stronger than he was.

Orin stumbled backwards and fell to the floor, rolling.

Scar swung his wrist slightly, feeling better. "How weak...you are indeed a rat."

Orin stood up, staring at Scar. "You aren't even a cultivator."

Scar's eyes widened and his face flushed red in embarrassment. He had lied to everyone that he was a cultivator, trying to hide the fact that he wasn't. So he had worked out repeatedly, building muscle mass and taking potions, so that he would be stronger than most normal people.

When he landed the attack just now, Orin was able to tell. He didn't feel the same power that came when the drunken man had attacked him. Scar's attack had been a purely physical one, unattributed to any elements.

"Y-you! How dare you!"

Scar tried to defend himself, but the words just weren't forthcoming. He was busted, as clear as that. It even made the matter worst when it was Orin, the one who he had always bullied that found him out.

Orin walked towards him, a cold expression on his face.

Scar gulped as he watched the boy walking towards him. What was Orin going to do?

"Is this how my stay at the orphanage ended?"

Scar suddenly dropped to the floor as Orin approached him, he bowed and clutched Feng's leg. "Please don't tell Mrs Matron, please! I would do anything you ask of me!"

Orin was amused. He felt an irresistible urge to laugh out loud, however, he couldn't do that. He was supposed to look cool and overbearing right now, a smile would spoil it all.

Orin placed a hand on Scar's shoulder, causing the enforcer to look up at him. Orin was surprised to see tears on Scar's face already, but he played it cool.

"So he loves this place that much, huh?" Orin thought inwardly.

But then again, why wouldn't Scar love the orphanage so much? It was the only place he got to feel important.

"You would be my lackey." Orin said, catching Scar by surprise.

Scar was expecting Orin to ask for money or beat him up as payback or stuff like that. However, Orin had no desire for such things. His mind was on the bigger picture.

He needed someone to cover up for him when he had to leave and meet the old man, he would be even more busy from now, so kicking Scar out would only hinder his plans. They would do more harm than good.

Scar looked up at Orin, tears in his eyes. "I would! I would!"

Then he bent down again, hugging Orin's legs. "Thank you so much!!"

Orin raised a brow, his face a mixture of both embarrassment and confusion. His face flushed red. "Well, that was easy."
