Chapter 2 - My Original Informant

"Give me all of the notes that were made on this particular case." I told one of the officers as I walked away from the active crime scene and made my way to the barrier that blocked it from the prying eyes of the public.

One of the young male officers handed me the file for the case. All the information was on paper and not on a data shard. That was good because I tried to limit the number of times that I had to use my cybernetics since I did not trust Bio Sync Nexus Corp. I knew that they had an anterior motive behind all that they did.

"Thank you very much for giving me all of the known intel on this case". I said to him as I left the barricade.

As I walked past the barricade, I saw that the police officers were starting to move so that the medical shuttle could start to move through an opening in the barricade so that it could make it to the moorage of the police station.

I made my way back to the sidewalk that was on the front area of the building of BioSync Nexus Corp, where I had just inspected the crime scene of the two dead females.

Now, I had to contact the main person of my group of informants as a method of gathering intel on the female victims. While I walked along the sidewalk, I saw that in one of the alleyways there were a symbol of a black skull with a silver Katana that was going through it with the hilt above the skull and the blade was on the other side.

Then I made a very simple symbol of a four-sided red star but it was collapsed in on itself as if it was falling apart with a piece of red chalk that I grabbed out of my top front pocket of my trench coat. This was a symbol that I made to gather all the main people of my informant network so that I could gather data on the two female victims.

After that, I made my way into an old dinner that was at the end of the block. It was called Dizzy Joe's. The building was very busy during that nighttime. There were people rushing through the drive-through as if they were in a hurry. I saw that only a few of the customers chose to slow down their nights by coming inside.

On the inside of this old dinner, there were no ai programs running things. This was one of the few places that were still run entirely by a human staff. I always thought that that made their food taste so much better since it was made by people to ensure quality over speed.

This dinner was run by four people. Joe stayed in the back and cooked. His wife Jane waited all the tables. Their Son Darris, who was only twenty-six, ran the bar. Finally, their daughter Ruth, who was ten years old, would help her mom whenever she could.

"Detective Frost, it is good to see you again." Jane said to me as she rolled up in her red skates on the tile floor. "Do you want your usual at your usual rate?" she asked me as she pulled out a notepad and pen.

"Yes, and I would like a coffee with a bit of sugar while I wait, please." I said to her as I took off my trench coat and set at the corner round table.

"All right, your food will be ready in a bit. As always, it is a pleasure to serve you Detective Frost." She said as she skated off and went into the kitchen to place the order.

This dinner was known for its privacy and ability to not pry too much into the lives of their customers. That is why I always used it as a place to meet with the head of my network and get them to send out the word about the current case that I was working on.

Then, a short elderly bald man who was wearing a torn silver hoodie and black jean pants set down beside me.

"I saw that you had drawn the symbol for me to meet you here at the dinner. Do you have something to show me?" he asked me as Jane came over to the table placed and placed my coffee in front of me.

"Did you need me to get your friend anything while he is here?" Jane asked me as soon as she had given my coffee.

As soon as she spoke, I saw that he leaned closer in on the table and he showed an expression that told me that he was getting upset by the way she had just ignored him as if he was not even there.

"I will take a Steady Sour Princess cold". He said in a clearly frustrated tone.

"Okay I will have it here for you shortly". She said in a very excited tone before she turned and walked away from the table.

"All I can say is that you have never changed the things that you like in the ten years that I have known you. Here you go. I have all the information that has been gathered about this current case here in this folder for you to read". I told him as I gave him the folder that I had placed in my lap when I sat down at the table.

"What can I say? I like what I like. You know the saying you can not teach an old dog new tricks." He said to me as he grabbed the file from me and began to quickly skim the information inside.

"The original crime scene is in the back ally that is behind the main building of BioSync Nexus Corp. There was a total of two victims they were both females. You see, we have found a few marks on their bodies that look like injection sites.

Their bodies are being taken to my precinct to be examined by the medical examiner that is currently on duty." I said to him just before I saw the plate with my food on it being brought to the table.

This plate had a chicken fried stake that had a crispy brown crust covering the meat. There was a small bowl of brown gravy beside it and two pieces of white Texas toast.

"It looks amazing as always, Jane." I said to her out of respect because I always preferred the homemade meals of this restaurant over the fast-food services that were provided around the city.

After that, she placed a glass in front of my informant that contained a green tea in it with ice cubes and a whole miniature peach floating inside of it.

"Thank you, doll." He said as he started to sip the tea, and his usually serious expression turned into a smile for a moment.

She walked away from the table because she had a new customer to take care of that I saw sitting down on one of the barstools out of the corner of my left eye.

I grabbed the fork that was to my right and cut the right side of the chicken and felt as though I was eating a piece of home as I bit on the piece that I had cut off.

"Which medical examiner is on duty?" I asked me right before I saw him take another sip of his tea.

"It is Alex". I said to him with my eyes narrowed so that he knew that I was serious about it.

"It just had to be him on this night. Are you trying to piss me off by asking for my help on a night that he is on duty?" he asked he as he placed down his glass of tea on the table with such force that a bit of the tea spilled over onto the left side of the glass.

"No, I am not trying piss you off" I said as I took another bite of the chicken, but this, I dipped it in the gravy first.

"Then why are you making me help you in a case where the medical examiner is that asshole Alex? It needs to be a good reason, or I will decline to help you on this case." He said as he sipped his tea.

I decided that I should tell him the truth it was my entire career as a detective of Rebirth City that was on the line with this case. I knew that this case would be a lot easier to solve with his ear to the ground, helping me gather intel than if I were to do it alone.

"All right, if anyone deserves to know the truth, it would be you. My captain has told me that if I fail this case, I will no longer be a detective and that I would be put on patrol".

"Okay if the stakes are that high for you, I can understand why you asked for my help on this case. Besides, I want to keep getting my favorite type of tea for free. I will have to take this case very seriously despite my hatred for how cocky Alex always is with me.

I will get back to you in the morning with what the word is on this crime scene." He said to me as he finished his tea and got out of the table before leaving the dinner.

I finished my food and paid the amount of money that I owed them for the food and drinks.

Since I had given my informant the documents all I had to do was wait so I decided to go back to the crime scene to see if they had missed any key detail in the original analysis of the crime scene.
