Chapter 30 - New Name

The swirling portal within the Magic Towe deposited Dawnfyr into a sprawling chamber filled with glowing runes and enchanted devices. The Trial of the Arcane Verdant Mage was about to begin, and Marcus felt the weight of anticipation settle in as he prepared for what would undoubtedly be a grueling challenge.

The trial consisted of multiple tasks designed to test intelligence, adaptability, and mastery over magic. Each phase pushed Marcus to rethink his approach and utilize his newly upgraded Arboreal Sage subclass alongside his innate elemental affinity.

The first task required Marcus to manipulate environmental magic to restore balance to a disrupted forest ecosystem within the chamber. He quickly activated Ethereal Bloomstorm, the unique Arboreal Sage skill that combined elemental damage with restorative effects. The glowing blossoms helped repair the corrupted terrain while simultaneously neutralizing aggressive mobs.

Damage Dealt with Ethereal Bloomstorm: 110 Magic ATK per target.

Restoration Effect: Balanced the ecosystem in record time.

The second task involved navigating a labyrinth of mirrored runes while solving arcane puzzles designed to confuse and misdirect. Marcus relied on his sharp memory and methodical nature, carefully plotting his path while dodging rune traps that triggered AoE damage.

The final task brought him face-to-face with an ancient Arcane Warden, a massive elemental construct designed to guard the secrets of the tower. Marcus activated Verdant Sovereignty, summoning Dryad Guardians to aid him, and paired their defensive abilities with his elemental spells to deliver a decisive victory.

Damage Dealt with Verdant Sovereignty and Flame Surge: 130 Magic ATK per target.

Reward Gained: Arcane Warden defeated; subclass unlocked.

A notification appeared across Marcus's screen:

Subclass Unlocked: Arcane Verdant Mage

- Combines mastery of elemental magic with nature-enhanced abilities.

- Grants unique skills, including Sylvan Arc, a powerful single-target spell combining elemental and nature damage.

Marcus smiled as he stood amidst the glowing ruins of the chamber. His build was now even stronger, his abilities more diverse. He exited the Magic Tower triumphantly, ready for the next phase of his journey.

Outside the tower, Marcus reviewed his character sheet, scrolling through the myriad of rewards and upgrades he had earned. As he did, his gaze fell on his name: Dawnfyr. He frowned, muttering under his breath, "Lame. It's… fine, but it doesn't feel right anymore. I've outgrown it."

After a moment's thought, Marcus opened his inventory and selected one of his Cash Items—a Name Change Scroll. It was an expensive but invaluable tool, allowing players to rename their characters once and only once. Marcus hesitated for a moment, considering his options. The name needed to reflect his evolving journey, his new status as the Verdant King and the wielder of multiple advanced subclasses. It needed to feel noble yet powerful, like something you'd expect from a legendary dragon in a fantasy novel.

Finally, inspiration struck. Marcus typed the new name into the scroll and confirmed the change. His screen updated, displaying the new name proudly:

Velkharion.

"Well, Velkharion," Marcus muttered, smirking at his newly updated name, "time to make some waves in Asgard."

The glow of the Magic Tower's spiraling runes faded behind Velkharion as he stepped out onto the crowded streets of Everdawn Citadel, his towering hybrid form radiating quiet confidence. The newly acquired Arcane Verdant Mage subclass filled his stats menu, and a quick glance confirmed its powerful synergy with his other subclasses. For Marcus, now known as Velkharion, everything had begun to align perfectly for the next chapter of his journey. But as he made his way through the bustling city, something felt off.

Players and NPCs turned to look at him, their gazes lingering. Normally, the whispers of awe and recognition would follow him wherever he went. But this time, the comments were different, tinged with skepticism and disbelief.

[Local Chat]:

[IronPike]: Who's that guy? Velkharion? Never heard of him.

[BlueOrchid]: Oh, he's probably just another poser. Heard of Dawnfyr's exploits and decided to copy his vibe.

[CrystalMist]: Ugh, people trying to ride on Dawnfyr's fame are getting out of hand.

[FlameRift]: Yeah, fake it till you make it, I guess. Good luck to him.

Marcus frowned as the comments trickled through his HUD. It hadn't occurred to him that changing his name would strip away the immediate recognition he had earned as Dawnfyr. The very name that carried the weight of his achievements was now absent, and Velkharion was a new entity entirely—a stranger trying to prove himself in a world that no longer remembered his old deeds.

"Poser, huh?" Marcus muttered, shaking his head. "We'll see about that."

Velkharion made his way to the World Gate, the ancient portal that would take him to Asgard.
