With Eddie's daughter safely under Doug's protection, Alex drove Eddie back to his safe house to begin putting the man to use.
The ride was quiet. Eddie sat in the passenger seat of the yellow taxi, stealing glances out the window while Alex focused on the road.
The streets they passed through were bleak: crumbling buildings, people shuffling along with hollow eyes, and women leaning on street corners, offering themselves to whoever would pay.
Eddie frowned, unease crawling under his skin. He turned to look at Alex, suspicion in his eyes.
He's not taking me somewhere to kill me… is he? The thought bloomed suddenly in his head.But he shook it off. No... if he wanted me dead, I wouldn't be breathing now.
Still, the silence did little to calm his nerves.
Then the car slowed to a stop in front of a gate that looked too high-tech for the ruin it guarded.
