Ryuya looked at the rampaging Near-Sea King and asked Garp, "Admiral Garp, why are you back so soon? Where's your grandson?"
Garp's face fell. "We'll talk later. Let's deal with this Sea King first!"
"Leave it to me. I've recently had new insights into swordsmanship."
Garp, after a moment's hesitation, nodded. "Alright, I'll leave it to you." With Ryuya handling it, there wouldn't be any problems. Garp felt completely at ease.
Makino and the frightened patrons emerged from the bar. Seeing the Sea King, they were even more panicked.
Makino looked at Ryuya, "Admiral White Dove, Foosha Village is constantly plagued by the Near-Sea King. Please help us eliminate it!" She bowed deeply.
Ryuya nodded, picked up a blade of grass with a dewdrop on it, and murmured, "All things under heaven can be a sword; where the heart goes, all things can be cut."
The others didn't understand. If this weren't Admiral White Dove, they would have thought he was crazy.
Ryuya extended his hand, using the blade of grass to "slash" at the distant Near-Sea King.
One, two, three seconds passed, seemingly without incident.
"What happened?" "Nothing, it seems."
"Did Admiral White Dove's attack fail?"
…
A gentle breeze blew. Sunlight shone on the land; there was no sign of sword energy.
But the next second, the Near-Sea King let out a mournful cry. Its body split in two, sinking into the ocean, becoming food for other sea creatures.
This was unbelievable. Even though they were far weaker than Ryuya, they shouldn't have been completely unaware of the sword energy!
Even Garp was stunned.
"Ryuya, have you surpassed the peak of Supreme-Grade Swordsman?"
Ryuya shook his head. "That's not something achievable so quickly. I just had some insights, but I believe a breakthrough is closer."
Garp gasped, then patted Ryuya's shoulder. "White Dove, your talent is incredible! You're the next Admiral of the Fleet!"
"No, I don't care about that. As long as I can uphold justice in the Navy, I'm happy."
Garp chuckled. "Alright, it's done. Let's go drink."
Garp entered the bar. The others fled, fearing Ryuya's wrath. But Ryuya hadn't even considered them.
Back in the bar, Ryuya ordered another drink.
He asked Garp, "Admiral Garp, about your grandson… you said you'd bring him."
Garp's face fell. "Ahem… my grandson, Luffy… he, uh, went to sea… to become a pirate."
Garp hung his head in shame.
Makino smiled, "Admiral Garp, I believe Luffy will make a name for himself on the Grand Line!"
Makino and Garp had known each other for a long time. She considered Luffy like a younger brother.
Ryuya thought: So Luffy has left Foosha Village!
Garp sighed, "Making a name for himself? The Grand Line is chaotic! The Emperors, Dawn Bird… it's incredibly difficult to make a name for yourself. The Navy is better; more resources, better prospects, and with White Dove leading, Luffy could improve faster!"
"On this sea, strength is paramount!"
Garp finished his drink.
Ryuya said, "Even if you give him to me, I won't take him."
"Why?"
"Too weak! And inconvenient."
Garp understood. "Hahahaha, right. Your crew is mostly female Marines!"
Ryuya shrugged, turning to Makino.
"Makino, I want you to be my personal brewer. What do you say?"
