Chapter 2 - Prologue - 2

Chapter 2: Prologue 2

The menacing clouds looming over Beika City obscure the Japanese characters KUROYAMA ONMYOJI JIMUSHO lettered on the second-floor window.

Shodo, enveloped in the dim light, still sits in his seat, leaning back in his desk chair.

Harmony! Balance!

Releasing the ancestral creature means breaking with these principles inherited from his parents, and which every master of yin and yang must follow.

The veins running across his hands become more visible.

'During the ancestor's era, when faith was abundant, the creature was free. In other words, wasn't that the state of harmony and balance back then?'

A fox-like smile spreads across his face.

'What's wrong with returning things to how they were then?'

'If I manage to convince the creature to collaborate with me in this act in exchange for a certain freedom...'

In the past, the presence of this creature contributed to an ecosystem rich in faith, as people were accustomed to witnessing things beyond reason and logic.

However, its presence also encouraged the mutation of certain species; common people could not defend themselves, technology was insufficient.

For this reason, the ancestor sealed the creature, creating a new balance, a new harmony in favor of the common people. Unfortunately, generations passed, his deeds were buried in oblivion, and science grew at the expense of faith.

Amidst these machinations, unbeknownst to him, a man walking stops in front of his agency.

His appearance looks haggard, but in his eyes, reflecting the lettered characters, hope shines.
