Penny's eyes flicked back to the servants, but none of them reacted to Osvaldo's words. They just stood still, heads bowed, as if this was all perfectly normal.
Her cheeks warmed.
Did he really mean it? Did he really want her to sit on his lap?
She glanced at his lap and then on the floor, avoiding his gaze like plague.
Had Osvaldo ever carried someone who weighed 150 pounds before? His legs would snap for sure! And if that happened, it would be her fault. That thought alone made her want to crawl into the nearest hole.
"That's not necessary, Mr. Osvaldo," she said quickly, walking beside him. "Let me carry you instead. I'm heavier." Shame washed over Penny at her words, but there was nothing she could do.
