Chapter 59 - Mission and Motives

Chapter 59 – Missions and Motives

The next day, morning sunlight streamed into Class A's grand room.

Raven, Seraphine, and Lyra took their assigned seats quietly.

Raven leaned back, his black eyes slowly scanning the room.

His gaze flicked from face to face—assessing, calculating.

Seraphine sat upright beside him, her golden eyes focused elsewhere.

She was busy in her own thoughts, silently analyzing her surroundings.

Lyra, a few seats away, sat cross-legged with her arms folded.

Her eyes were closed, her expression calm as she replayed Aurelia's teachings from last night.

The classroom door opened, and footsteps echoed across the polished floor.

Professor Jacob, tall and composed, entered with a folder in hand.

At twenty-five, he carried himself with confidence and calm authority.

"Good morning, everyone," he began, setting the folder down.

"I hope you all had a good rest because today we begin something new."

He looked around the room, his sharp eyes meeting each student's briefly.

"As you know, only 50 students were selected for Class A based on performance."

"From today, we're forming new teams—each consisting of one Class A student and four Class B students."

A quiet ripple of surprise and curiosity spread across the room.

"You'll be assigned real missions. Field work."

"Each completed mission earns you points—points more valuable than money."

"Points can be exchanged for resources, items, even privileges that wealth can't buy."

A hand rose from the front.

It was Sophia. Her blue hair shimmered in the light as she spoke, black eyes sharp.

"May I ask what kind of missions we'll be assigned?"

Jacob nodded.

"Good question," he said.

"Your missions will involve dealing with people misusing the powers we all gained."

"There are already those using these abilities for crime, manipulation… even destruction."

Another student raised their hand.

"What if they're stronger than us? Or if there are too many?"

Jacob didn't flinch.

"All rankers so far are between 18 and 25. You're in the same category."

"If needed, multiple teams will work together. And support will come from newly formed guilds."

A third voice spoke up, skeptical.

"Why should we do this? Isn't this the government's job?"

Jacob's tone hardened just slightly.

"You'll gain points. Access to rare equipment. And this is about more than politics."

"This is your world now. If you don't step up, who will?"

Silence fell for a beat.

Raven's POV

Tch. Points and honor? Sounds noble on the surface.

But this system isn't built for fairness—it's control.

This country—Veraxon—it doesn't serve the people.

It serves the ones at the top. Those with power. Those who bend rules to survive.

Still… I've got nothing to lose.

Staying here gets me resources, intel, connections. I'll play along.

For now.

But I know what this is. They're gathering power under the name of unity.

And when the time comes, I'll make sure I'm the one holding the strings.

___

Professor Jacob closed the folder.

"Your team assignments will be posted tomorrow. Use today also to familiarize yourself with your peers."

He gave a final look around the class.

"Your choices today might determine your future. Make them wisely."
