The Guard Leader spoke to the Elders in a solemn but commanding tone, "Old Geezers pour all of your magic and rune formation buffs on me, specifically the mental empowerments and shields."
One of the Elders said through gritted teeth, "YOU? Do you take us for fools, you bastard? This monster killed the others right in front of you, and you weren't able to do anything. It's obvious this monster is avoiding you and is constantly going for the weaker ones. It would come after us now."
The Guard sneered in disdain, "That's precisely why you should do as I say. If I step aside, do you think you old fools can protect yourselves? Do as I say, and I will keep this monster at bay."
