-Galdhøpiggen Peak-

-Jotunheimen mountain range-

---Snow. Ice. Blood, and crushing pressure.

And then, breath.

"Huooooooooogggghhhh---!" Air rushed into my healing lungs with renewed vigor.

I woke up to find Fenrir's paw still crushing me.

My lungs burned with pain as my ribs cracked one after the other, sounding like someone was playing the Xylophone, but something inside me had shifted.

[Sensitivity Manipulation]

The two horns on my head glowed furiously, and I coated my hands with [Power of Destruction] and pierced both of his legs with my hands and...

"Horaaaaaaaaaa---!"

---shoved his furry ass into the freezing air!

---"SCREEEEEECCHHHH---!!!!"

Not wasting any more time, I made my move.

[Water Magic x Ice Magic: Rapidly Freezing Reverse Geyser Model]

Magically infused water burst from beneath, soaring into the air as it submerging Fenrir as it rapidly cooled at a supernatural rate, encasing Fenrir in a prison of ice.

It wouldn't last forever, but who said that it needed to?

-shatter!-

Putting some strength in my legs, I kicked the ground and flew into the air after the imprisoned Fenrir.

"And, for the finishing touches...!"

[Wind Magic: Wrathful Tempest Tornado Model]

-whirrrr!-

The frosty winds around me began to twist and turn rapidly as I grabbed hold of Fenrir as we flew higher into the sky.

-whhirrrr!-

Tempests that could cut through the strongest of steel nicked through the ice, staining the inside with Fenrir's Divine wolf lifeblood.

And as we reached peak velocity and altitude, I had an even crazier idea.

"Time for an 'attitude adjustment', doggy---!" Hoisting the encaged-in-ice Fenrir over my head and shoulders like a fireman carry, and Fenrir, the tornado, and I went spiralling towards the ground.

-booooom-!!!!!!-

As I slammed Fenrir into the snowy ground, I could feel the earth around me explode, with numbing rumbles rattled my eardrums, and quite possibly, even people far, far away had we not placed a silencing spell on the whole mountain range earlier.

---"whineee...!"

Watching as a pained Fenrir did his best to stand back up as he limped, my body knit itself back together in real time, with shredding muscle, skin, and torn flesh reforming like I was stitching myself on a whole other level.

Though I don't have a fear of holes, trypophobia, right? I gotta say, this looked disgusting to look at.

And though the pain faded, I felt my mind clearing at an astonishing rate.

But seriously, this guy's got some out-of-this-world durability

[Just keep hitting it hard.]

Why, thank you for the helpful advice, Mr.Minotaur!

[How polite. You are welcome, οἰκοδεσπότης.]

It seems my Sacred Gear Beast does not understand sarcasm...

But 'οἰκοδεσπότης/ oikodespótis'? I like the term; feels warm, yet filled with authority. I like it.

Oh well...

-vooom!-

The reddish-black energy horns on my head swirled, and as I pulled them, I ended up with long, jagged, brutal weapons in my arms that looked like poleaxes.

"…Hmmn... I wonder if I awaken another variant of Balance Breaker, would I get any armor?"

[Perhaps. After all. Balance Breakers are not supposed to be. In the first place.]

"Ain't that so?" I twirled them, [Worthless] leaking out in thin waves, and [Power of Destruction] sparking crimson-black across the blades. "I gotta say, the ability to channel energy through these things is a real God-send, literally."

"Though, I wonder if I shoot beams from my horns..."

[Crack]

-whooosh!!!-

A beam shot out at Fenrir, nearly amputating his hind legs as a space tore open near him.

"Phew." I whistled. "Me likey~"

-swish!-

I then hurled both weapons. They cut the air as Fenrir dodged, reappearing behind him, tearing into Fenrir's already damaged hind legs with a sickening thunk.

---"@#$%^&@%$---!!!!!!" The beast snarled, making sounds I actually didn't think it could make.

"Any time now, Arthur!" I yelled as I saw the rest of the gang running back to rejoin the fight.

Vali dove in first, Albion's voice booming inside his battered Scale Mail

[Divide!]

[Divide!] [Divide!]

[Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!]

[Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!]

[Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!]

[Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!] [Divide!]

'Damn, how many times are you gonna do that, huh?' I couldn't help but sigh at the sight of Vali sapping away Fenrir's strength, especially when just a few uses of [Divide] was enough to make Kokabiel into fodder.

I broke out into a big grin. At this rate, with the number of times Vali was continuing to use [Divide], at this rate, even Sadako would be able to mollywhop him, albeit with low difficulty.

-wham, wham, wham!-

Fenrir's power visibly and rapidly dimmed, as his colossal muscles twitched as Vali cut across him in a flurry of white-and-blue strikes that slammed into him.

"Hahahaha! That's the spirit! Take this ya' stinkin' mutt!" Bikou cackled as he zipped in with his Ruyi Jingu Bang, smashing the staff across Fenrir's snout hard enough to make teeth rattle loose.

That gave me an idea.

[Wind Magic: Razor Saw Method]

I focused wind magic, twisting it into a spiraling blast that would cleanly slice the ragged mountain slope behind Fenrir if it hit, as I gave a glance to Arthur, who was hacking away at Fenrir.

-nod-

Arthur caught my glance, immediately understanding. He slashed again, this time with Caliburn tearing a space gap, connecting the mountain to a rift above Fenrir. The loosened peak vanished, then reappeared directly overhead.

-crash!!!-

A mountain landed on Fenrir's skull like divine slapstick comedy. The wolf howled, shaking snow and debris for kilometers.

"Bind him, nyaa!" Kuroka shouted, her tails standing on end as she layered binding magic.

Le Fay followed with her complex incantations, and Sadako, my ever-loyal ghost maid, placed her pale hands on Kuroka and Le Fay, her body glowing faintly as she acted as a conduit, boosting their spell.

Honestly, I was surprised too. I didn't think my little soldiers had that kind of effect.

Ahem. Onto more important things.

Chains of magic locked Fenrir's paws and pinned him to the ground.

"Perfect." Arthur said as he raised Excalibur Ruler.

-shine!-

The golden blade shimmered as its unique ability awakened.

Excalibur Ruler could bend the will of beings, forcing loyalty or commanding obedience. It wasn't as noble and ethical as my mind control; it was dirtier, it was domination, rewriting allegiance itself.

I shook my head as I saw it go down.

Ah, it's tough being a good man in a crazy world...

Arthur's eyes hardened as he pointed the blade at Fenrir, who strained and snarled. Slowly, the wolf's crimson eyes dulled, shifting from rage to blank submission.

It was done. The ancient beast that once served Loki now bowed his head to Vali.

"…It's done," Arthur exhaled, lowering his sword.

The bindings faded. Fenrir stirred, but instead of attacking, the wolf lumbered behind Vali, crouching obediently.

Vali smiled. "That was fun."

Bikou collapsed onto the snow, groaning. "Tch, I think my bones are jelly. That wolf hit harder than a truck full of bricks."

Arthur brushed dust off his coat, his tone calm even through exhaustion. "It was a difficult battle. But we succeeded."

"Yay! We did it!" Le Fay cheered, raising a tired fist to the sky.

I plopped onto the snow, hammer dissolving back into my horns. "Gotta say, it was fun. Would definitely do it again."

Vali chuckled under his breath. "Definitely."

"You two are ridiculous." Arthur sighed as he wiped his glasses repeatedly.

"Nyahah, it worked!" Kuroka cheered, tails swishing proudly.

"…yay," Even Sadako raised a hand, though with all the enthusiasm of a bored librarian. "peace, peace."

"Come to think of it..." Vali trailed off as he looked at Ophis on a faraway mountain peak.

"Oh, Ophy? Don't worry about her, she won't interfere at this level..." I said. "Though this may sound out of character, I do want to spar with her someday..."

Vali nodded. "Took the words right out of my mouth."

The others looked at Ophis, but didn't really voice any complaints.

That was just how it was for them after all.

"But I'm afraid that's gonna have to wait." Vali sighed as he looked at the docile Fenrir. "Though I can only wait for the day."

-shimmer!-

Le Fay raised her hand as she brought forth a teleportation spell, one that was a glowing gateway back to safer grounds.

But I didn't move.

Vali noticed first. "You're not coming?"

I waved him off. "Nah. I'll stick around. Gotta pick up a few workers for my dungeon."

The group blinked at me. Then Bikou snorted. "Hah! Good one."

Le Fay giggled, and Arthur gave me a raised eyebrow look as Vali shook his head.

"Funny guy."

'It wasn't a joke, though.'

As they filed into the rift, I waved after them. "Hey, Vali! Next time we meet, I'll have a surprise waiting for you."

That caught his attention. His smirk deepened, genuine this time. "I'll look forward to it."

"Don't freeze your ass off, Daichi!" Bikou called before stepping through.

"See you later," Vali said.

"See ya! You should visit us next time!" Le Fay waved amicably.

"So long! Let us meet again soon." Arthur wished us well with his usual knightly politeness. Then the tear closed, and silence returned to the frozen valley.

Kuroka hugged herself, shivering. "Nyaaa, Daichi? What are we staying here for?"

Sadako nodded, her pale expression unchanging. "…It feels colder when you're a ghost, somehow."

I shrugged off my tattered coat--- what was left of it, anyway, in two sad pieces, and draped them around the girls like a cool ikemen while I put a finger to my lips. "Shhh. Don't ask questions. We're about to steal two more dogs from the Norse pound."

Both of them looked at me, then quietly lifted the scraps of cloth and draped them back over me instead.

"You need it more, bocchan." Sadako murmured.

"Yep, Daichi~. We're fine, nya~." Kuroka teased, pressing close for warmth anyway.

My temple throbbed. "What do you mean I need it more…?"

They exchanged a look like we know better than you.

"Well, Daichi-kun~ You look good even when you're wearing rags, so rather than homeless you look... fashionable~?" Kuroka tilted her head with a teasing smirk.

"You look like a homeless bum, Daichi-bocchan." Sadako bluntly said. "But it's fine, because you are my employer, so I won't judge."

I groaned, rubbing my forehead. "Alright. That's it. Both of you are getting punished when we get back."

Kuroka's lips curved into a sly grin. "Nyaa~ Save me, Sadako~!"

"No." Sadako firmly said. "I am a loyal servant of the young master..."

"Noooo~"

-doooom!-

Just when I thought the snow had finally gone quiet… the air grew heavy.

"What are you going to do now?" Ophis had made her way next to me in the blink of an eye as she asked.

From the frosty fog that came due to all of the destruction around me, I could spot the figures of two other Giant Wolves, though they were smaller than Fenrir.

---Hati and Sköll.

They were sons of the God-Devouring Wolf, Fenrir, born after their grandpappy Loki turned some Jötunn woman into a wolf and made Fenrir mate with her.

Just like Papa Fenrir, these two had ashen-gray fur, although Sköll had far darker grey fur, and Hati, on the other hand, has greyish blue fur similar to that of Fenrir's but slightly darker, with both having the same two golden horns from their shoulders.

"…Nyaa, are these two what we're sticking around for?" Kuroka asked.

Sadako, ever the mood-setter, just tilted her head. "…Maybe?"

Ophis looked up at me. "Is it?"

"Yep. You all got that right. But we won't be fighting this time, maybe."

Hati snarled, low and guttural, a sound that made the snow around him vibrate. Sköll's growl answered in kind, like two engines revving up before the collision.

And me? I just smirked.

"Well, ladies?" I said, stretching as the reddish-black horns pulsed above my head. "Looks like we're about to expand the family business."

Sadako blinked slowly. "…Huh?"

"You know," I grinned at her. "Two new juniors. Cute little pups to help with the chores. Wash the dishes, mop the floor, maybe chase off intruders."

Sadako's dead expression didn't even twitch, but her tone had the faintest spark of interest. "Oh… so I'll get assistants."

"Exactly."

"And… I can boss them around."

"Yep."

"And eat snacks while they do the work."

"..."

"And... work... hard alongside them...?"

"Now you're catching on."

"Yay."

Meanwhile, Hati and Sköll continued to circle us, growls shaking the snowdrifts loose from cliffs. To them, we were prey. To me? Recruitment opportunities.

"…Daichi, you're not actually serious about… taming them?" Kuroka asked.

"When have I ever not been serious?" I smiled.

---"GRAAAOOOOOOORRRR-!!!"

---"RAAAOOOOOOAAAARR-!!!"

Both wolves crouched, ready to pounce, but before they did, I opened my mouth, ready to host the brand new show called, "Who Wants to Be My Pet?"

"Hey, guys? I know you two are busy, being giant wolves and all..." I smiled as innocently as I could with my very trustworthy smile.

[Hypnosis]

"How about we make a deal? And by deal, I mean you two just listen and do what I say?"

"Don't worry, I'll be sure to feed you good."

This was going to be fun.

Trivia Time! (Againx36!)

Did you know(ofc)

Vali Lucifer has the most daddies in DxD when you count his abusive, deadbeat biological dad. Then Azazel, who unofficially adopts Vali. And finally Odin, who later officially adopts Vali after the Vampire Civil War.

And as of writing, Daichi has none because he is fatherless(lololol, couldn't be me)

Anyway, because of this, Vali is also considered a Prince of Asgard and the stepbrother of Thor and Vidar.

In Volume 21, the Norse World is described as making up three levels, the lowest ones being Helheim or Hel, which is the Norse Realm of the Dead, and the Icy Region, Niflheim, and the highest one being Asgard where the gods reside.
