Chapter 167 - Chapter 167: Deep in the Wilderness—Misty and Suzie Both Fall Into Hypnosis

After their "sleep-aid session," Kazuki and Misty headed to the bathroom together to freshen up.

Kazuki, being a guy, showered at lightning speed and went straight back to bed.

Misty stayed in the bathroom a little longer, carefully washing up.

By the time the noise outside had finally quieted down, Misty yawned and curled into Kazuki's arms to sleep.

Moonlight spilled through the window, casting a soft glow on her flushed cheeks.

Even though she was exhausted, there was a faint, satisfied smile on her lips—clearly, she was quite pleased with that special "sleep aid."

The next morning, sunlight slipped through the gap in the curtains.

Misty blinked awake, groggy, and realized Kazuki was no longer beside her. She rubbed her eyes, sat up, and felt a slight ache in her waist.

"This guy… he really wore me out last night…"

She got dressed and walked out of the room, just in time to see Suzie stepping out from the room next door. The two girls yawned at the same time, rubbing their eyes in perfect sync.

Suzie glanced at Misty's tired face and couldn't help asking, "Misty, did you sleep badly too?"

"Didn't you sleep next to Kazuki?"

Misty mumbled, half-asleep, and quickly bit her lip. "Well… his room… you could still hear the noise from outside, so I didn't sleep well either."

She let out a sigh of relief, thankful she caught herself—she'd almost blurted something she shouldn't have.

At that moment, Kazuki strode into the inn, looking completely refreshed, holding a few freshly picked Berries in his hand.

He smiled brightly at the girls. "Morning, beauties!"

Suzie tilted her head, puzzled. "Kazuki, why are you so full of energy? Didn't everyone have a rough night?"

Kazuki shrugged, grinning. "I didn't sleep quite as well as usual, but still—slept right through till morning."

Misty puffed up her cheeks, silently complaining in her heart.

Of course he slept! Meanwhile, my clothes were a mess, and I had to get up in the middle of the night to wash them…

Thinking of this, her face flushed again. Suzie gave her a curious look.

Their eyes met, and Misty's heart skipped a beat. She hurriedly grabbed the Berries from Kazuki to change the subject.

"Hey! We're in town now—why'd you go out to pick Berries? Why not just grab breakfast?"

She bit into one. Juice immediately dripped down, sliding onto her chest. Her expression twisted.

"So much juice… but the taste is weird!"

Suzie, seeing Misty's face, decided not to try one. "That… doesn't sound like something I want."

Kazuki nodded, putting the rest away without tasting them himself. These weren't for breakfast—they were for Jigglypuff's throat.

In the original script, when he'd encounter Jigglypuff, it would have already lost its singing voice. That morning, during his practice routine, Kazuki spotted these Berries in a grove and picked a few just in case.

Who knew the little foodie Misty would snatch one the moment she saw them?

Judging by her expression, Kazuki had no desire to taste one himself anymore, so he led the two of them off to a breakfast shop.

After a quick meal, the trio set out toward the forest near Neon Town.

Along the way, both Misty and Suzie seemed a bit fatigued, while Kazuki was full of energy, even humming a tune.

Misty couldn't help asking, "Kazuki, what are we looking for in the woods today?"

Kazuki smiled mysteriously. "Something to help the people of Neon Town finally get some sleep."

Suzie blinked. "Something to help them sleep? Wait… did you learn some special recipe from Cassandra?"

Kazuki shook his head. "Not exactly, but I do know there's a certain… 'magical' creature in this forest."

Misty and Suzie exchanged a glance, curiosity gleaming in their eyes, but they didn't ask further. They followed Kazuki deeper into the woods.

About half an hour later, Kazuki suddenly stopped. Guided by his Aura Power, he pushed aside a patch of grass. "Found it!"

Misty and Suzie looked where he pointed. The grass rustled—and a round, pink balloon Pokémon rolled out.

It tilted its head, staring at the trio with big, curious eyes.

Misty immediately perked up. "It's Jigglypuff! Oh, so this is the 'good thing' you were talking about, Kazuki!"

"Right! Jigglypuff's singing can help people fall asleep, right?"

"Kazuki, you're amazing—your Pokémon sense is still spot-on!"

Suzie crouched down gently, trying to approach Jigglypuff. "But its song doesn't usually reach that far, right? It can't possibly put the whole town to sleep."

"Don't worry. This Jigglypuff is different." Kazuki crouched too, activating his Aura Power to communicate.

"Hey there, Jigglypuff."

Jigglypuff lifted its head and let out a hoarse, raspy sound.

Without Aura Power, it would've been hard to understand what it meant, but Kazuki got it instantly.

Misty could tell something was wrong, too. "Kazuki, this Jigglypuff seems off. Shouldn't we take it to the Pokémon Center? Otherwise, your plan to make the town sleep won't work."

"No need." Kazuki waved his hand and pulled out the Berries he'd picked earlier, handing them to Jigglypuff. "Here, try this."

Misty blinked in confusion. "Isn't that the weird-tasting Berry you picked? Why give it to Jigglypuff?"

Suzie suddenly remembered. "Wait! That Berry's good for sore throats!"

She looked at Kazuki with new admiration. "Kazuki, are you psychic or something? You even prepared this in advance?"

Kazuki chuckled. "Cassandra mentioned it during a chat. I saw them during my morning run and grabbed a few."

Jigglypuff took the Berry, bit into it, and its eyes lit up. It devoured ten Berries in a flash.

Misty watched Jigglypuff eat so happily that her mouth watered again. "Is it… really that good?"

"Kazuki! Give me another one to try!"

Curious, Misty took another bite. Her expression twisted just like before.

"Heh, silly girl. Humans and Pokémon don't have the same taste buds. You're just greedy." Kazuki teased her and continued feeding Jigglypuff.

After two more Berries, Jigglypuff cleared its throat and sang, "Jiggaly~"

Its voice was crisp and sweet, no trace of the earlier rasp.

Misty quietly tossed her half-eaten Berry into the grass, then crouched down and cheered, "Great! Jigglypuff's singing is back!"

Kazuki smiled, now ready to make his move.

"Jigglypuff, your voice is amazing. How about performing on an even bigger stage with me?"

"I can take you to Pokémon Contests and let more people hear your songs."

Jigglypuff puffed up proudly.

"Jiggly!"

It babbled, clearly expressing its refusal to go with just anyone. In the past, people always fell asleep when it sang—that made it super mad!

"Appreciate my songs, huh…" Kazuki rubbed his chin, thinking.

"All right, how about this—you sing for me, and I'll show you how much I can appreciate it."

Suzie tugged on his sleeve, whispering, "Kazuki, Jigglypuff's songs have a hypnosis effect! If you don't block your ears, you'll fall asleep. But if you do, won't it get mad?"

"Don't worry—I've got it covered." Kazuki checked his system panel, confident.

[Psychic Power increased by 100%. (Note: At 100% Psychic Power boost, ordinary forms of hypnosis and psychic control are immune.)]

Back when he trained with Aya to earn the Fuchsia Gym Badge, his mental strength had increased by another 50%, bringing him to 100%. Jigglypuff's hypnosis wasn't going to work on him anymore.

That's why he could confidently make this promise.

Seeing Kazuki so self-assured, Misty and Suzie joined in to encourage Jigglypuff too.

"Yeah! Jigglypuff, we really want to hear your song!"

Jigglypuff, thrilled by their enthusiasm, cleared its throat and prepared to sing.

Soon, the famous Jigglypuff song echoed through the forest. The melody was gentle and lovely, imbued with a mysterious magic that made you want to close your eyes.

Misty and Suzie listened, their eyelids growing heavier and heavier, until eventually, out here in the middle of nowhere, they leaned against each other and dozed off.

Jigglypuff finished the song with its eyes closed. When it opened them and saw the two girls asleep, it immediately puffed up in frustration.

"Jigglyy!"

It bounced off the grass, about to scribble on their faces.

"That was beautiful!"

Kazuki's voice made Jigglypuff freeze and turn back, confused.

"Jiggly?"

Jigglypuff stared at Kazuki in shock. He wasn't asleep?

Kazuki smiled, nodding. "Of course I'm not asleep. Your song was incredible! I was totally captivated—didn't feel sleepy at all."

To be honest, Kazuki did feel a bit drowsy. Even with 100% Psychic power, Jigglypuff's song was seriously powerful. But actually falling asleep? No chance.

Hearing that, Jigglypuff cheered, bouncing in excitement.

"Jiggly! Jiggly!"

For the first time, someone had truly appreciated its singing!

Jigglypuff leaped into Kazuki's arms, rubbing against his chest, signaling that it was willing to be caught.

Nice! Mission complete—captured the pink cute menace!
