Chapter 71 - The War of Attrition

In the Shattered Skies Above...

The battle was endless, like a nightmare stretching for eternity. The portals had continued to open across the Cardinal World, disgorging angels, seraphs, and insectars. The forces of the heavens clashed against the might of the Cardinal World's strongest defenders, each side unwilling to give an inch.

On a balcony high in the Eastern Empire, stood Varvatos and Velzard, watching the clash of powers unfold before them. Varvatos, though not a Demon Lord, was a powerful entity in his own right, an ancient strategist and tactician whose understanding of warfare could shift the balance of any battle. Velzard, a fierce warrior in her own right, stood beside him, her icy presence like a silent sentinel.

Varvatos' eyes narrowed as he observed the chaos below, his mind calculating every move, every tactic. His expression remained stoic, though his thoughts were a tempest, torn between admiration for the battlefield's energy and the cold reality of the battle's cost.

"They're starting to wear thin," Velzard remarked softly, her voice cutting through the tension. Her gaze followed the movements of the Demon Lords and their armies. "The fatigue is beginning to show."

Varvatos did not turn his gaze, his fingers moving lightly over the rail of the balcony. His mind was a labyrinth of possibilities, each scenario playing out in his head.

"This isn't just about strength," he muttered. "It's a war of endurance. The longer the fight lasts, the more they will falter. They'll need to rely on their willpower."

Velzard's gaze hardened. "And their willpower is strong. But how long can even they last?"

Meanwhile, on the Battlefield...

The armies of angels and insectars were relentless, pushing forward, charging against the Demon Lords and their allies with divine fury. The sounds of steel clashing against steel, magic crashing against barriers, and roars of battle filled the air, like an overwhelming symphony of destruction.

Guy Crimson, his towering frame standing like a monolith amidst the chaos, swung his massive sword with precision. His sword cleaved through the ranks of the angels, each slash sending shockwaves that sent enemies flying. The Insectar Generals fell before him like wheat before a scythe, their armored bodies unable to withstand the sheer power of his strikes.

"Come on, show me something more than that!" Guy shouted, his voice booming across the battlefield. He barely seemed to break a sweat, his movements methodical and devastating.

But then, a new presence arrived. A Seraph Commander, its wings radiant with divine light, landed before Guy. It was taller, more imposing than the usual angels.

"You dare defy the heavens?" the Seraph roared, brandishing a gleaming, ethereal spear.

Guy's eyes narrowed, and with a quick step forward, he swung his sword in a powerful arc. The Seraph dodged with speed, its wings flapping and creating gusts of wind that knocked back lesser soldiers. The Seraph's spear thrust forward with divine precision, but Guy parried with ease, his sword crashing against the weapon with a sound like thunder.

"You're strong," Guy said, his voice dripping with amusement. "But not strong enough."

With a swift movement, he drove his blade into the Seraph's side, shattering its armor and sending it crashing to the ground.

In the Dragon Kingdom...

Milim Nava, the Dragon Princess, hovered in the sky, her form a blur of speed and power. She wove through the ranks of insectars and angels, tearing them apart with her unbridled fury. She had always enjoyed a fight, and this one was no exception.

Her laughter echoed across the battlefield as she dove towards an Insectar Warlord, its massive, spiked body covered in tough, armored plating.

"You think you can stop me?" Milim grinned, eyes glinting with mischief. "You're going to be so much fun!"

The Warlord hissed, its claws swiping through the air. But Milim was faster. She dashed forward and with a single punch, shattered the creature's carapace, sending it sprawling backward.

Before it could recover, Milim unleashed a burst of dragon fire, engulfing the Warlord in searing flames. The insectar's body crumbled to ash.

"Too easy," Milim said, wiping her hands off with a playful smirk.

But just as she turned to leave, a Seraph Warlord appeared before her, its blade gleaming with divine light. It swung at Milim with speed that took her by surprise. The Seraph's power was immense, its blade crackling with celestial energy.

Milim grinned. "Now this is what I've been waiting for."

The two clashed in mid-air, each blow sending shockwaves through the battlefield. Milim's strength and speed were a match for the Seraph's divine power, and the battle raged on, neither combatant giving an inch.

In El Dorado...

Leon Cromwell, clad in his golden armor, stood at the forefront of his forces, the Knights of El Dorado standing ready beside him. His sword, was ablaze with radiant power as he faced the advancing celestial forces.

An Archangel Commander, its wings gleaming with divine radiance, appeared before Leon, its golden armor gleaming like the sun.

"You are the last line of defense, human," the Archangel said, its voice carrying a note of disdain. "You will fall."

Leon smiled coldly. "I'll be the one deciding who falls."

With a battle cry, Leon surged forward, his sword crashing against the Archangel's halberd. The clash sent a shockwave through the air, and sparks flew as Leon's blade met divine steel. The Archangel was swift, its movements graceful, but Leon's experience and strength were formidable.

"You're good," Leon said, his voice calm, almost amused. "But not nearly good enough."

With a powerful strike, Leon shattered the Archangel's weapon, driving his blade into its chest. The Archangel crumbled to the ground, its body disintegrating into ashes.

In Ruberios...

Luminous Valentine stood at the gates of Ruberios, her Knights of the Saint Order arrayed around her, ready to face the incoming celestial forces. Hinata, Ghunter, and Louis stood beside her, their expressions grim but resolute.

"We hold this ground," Luminous said, her voice cold and commanding. "We will not let them pass."

An Archangel Commander landed before them, its golden wings unfurled, its blade raised high. The archangel's eyes glinted with divine light.

"Your resistance is futile," it said.

Luminous stepped forward, her staff glowing with divine energy. "Futile? You have no idea what you're up against."

With a swift strike, Luminous unleashed a torrent of divine magic, sending a wave of holy power crashing into the Archangel. The creature staggered, but it retaliated with a blast of celestial lightning. Luminous countered with a barrier of light, the magic crackling as the two forces collided.

"You think your magic is enough to stop me?" the Archangel said, its voice filled with arrogance.

Luminous smirked. "Watch and learn."

With a single motion, Luminous closed the distance, her staff glowing with the power of the saints. The Archangel was too slow to react, and Luminous struck, driving her staff through its chest and dissolving the creature into light.

In the Barren Lands...

Draguel stood surrounded by the remains of the Insectar Generals, his claws dripping with the remnants of his foes. He looked up to see a Seraph General descending from the skies, its wings glowing with divine radiance.

"You are a beast among men," the Seraph said, its voice like the ringing of a bell. "But you will fall before the heavens."

Draguel roared, his massive frame charging forward. The Seraph struck with divine speed, but Draguel's power was too much. His claws met the Seraph's sword, snapping it in half before sending the Seraph flying into the ground with a mighty blow.

"You talk too much," Draguel muttered, crushing the Seraph underfoot.

Meanwhile, in the Heavenly Palace...

Feldway stood silently, observing the battle. His army was relentless, and yet, the true targets were still out of reach.

Zelanus, the Insectar King, stood beside him, eyes glinting with excitement.

"The battle rages on, Feldway," Zelanus said. "But remember our true targets."

Feldway nodded, his eyes narrowing. "Yes. Velzard, Velgrynd, Veldora, and Milim.
