Sharon paced anxiously around her office, her heels clicking against the polished wooden floor. Her heart pounded in her chest as she tried to calm her racing thoughts. She had been waiting all morning for an update on the board meeting, and the suspense was killing her. She couldn't afford to lose her job—not now, not when so much was at stake.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Jake walking down the hallway. Without hesitation, she rushed toward him, her breath catching in her throat.
"Jake!" she called out urgently, her voice echoing through the corridor.
Jake stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. His expression was cold, his brows furrowed in irritation. "What?" he snapped, clearly in no mood for conversation.
