Lilian Jackson pursed her lips thoughtfully.
Butler Jackson looked at her steadily for a while, then hesitantly asked, "Do you still have feelings for Koa?"
"No," Lilian reflexively responded.
She retorted too quickly, and Butler Jackson immediately understood her thoughts. He lowered his voice and said, "This is my final warning to you: don't entertain thoughts you shouldn't have. Your mother left early, and your brother and I have always spoiled you, and the old man has loved you dearly since childhood. But even so, understand this: the face we have in this family is given to us by the old man. Don't destroy the little dignity we have left!"
"Dad!" Lilian called him unhappily, then stood up.
She turned and walked towards the garden.
How could she not understand the implied meaning of Butler Jackson's words?
Put plainly, a butler is still a servant, regardless of how much dignity they might have.
