Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: An Inevitable Encounter on a Narrow Path (7)

Qiao Mo's gaze softened a bit, but the curve of her lips held some obscurity.

An hour later.

She gathered her spirits and left the mall. No matter what, life must go on.

As soon as she stepped out of the mall's door, the bleak autumn wind hit her head-on, and she couldn't help but shiver. It really was cold...

But just as she hugged her arms, she felt a warmth on her shoulders; a coat was draped over her.

Qiao Mo was slightly stunned, turned her head, and immediately met Jiang Jinghao's concerned gaze. She couldn't help but pause: "Jing Hao?"

"I looked for you twice in the mall and still couldn't find you. Without your phone, I was afraid we might get separated. I had no choice but to wait for you at this door, thinking I would definitely see you when you came out."

Jiang Jinghao spoke while putting the coat on her, carefully buttoning it, and didn't forget to tie a dark red scarf around her neck.

Qiao Mo's eyes reddened slightly, she whispered, "What if I left through another door, wouldn't you be foolishly waiting here all day?"

"Even if it's foolish waiting, I'm willing." Jiang Jinghao carefully tied the scarf for her, his gaze tender. Just as he raised his head slightly, he caught sight of Qiao Mo's slightly swollen lips, and his fingers paused, somewhat lost in thought.

Aware of his gaze, Qiao Mo fell silent.

She was waiting for him to speak, waiting for him to ask.

As long as he asked, she would surely tell.

She knew she didn't deserve him now, but selfishly, she still longed for his warmth.

Qiao Mo waited for a long time, but he asked nothing from start to finish. Seeing her staring at him absent-mindedly, he instead took her hand warmly and said, "Shall I take you to the amusement park for a stroll?"

Qiao Mo was slightly stunned, her nose tinged with acidity.

His gaze remained clear, reflecting her image against the azure sky, yet it made her feel increasingly unworthy.

Qiao Mo gently withdrew her hand: "Jing Hao..."

She couldn't go on like this; how was she any different from those fickle-minded women?

Jiang Jinghao halted his steps slightly, turned his head to look at her, and a flicker of hidden pain crossed his gaze.

"Jing Hao, we..."

Just as she started to speak, even before she could say the words "let's break up," Qiao Mo's phone suddenly rang, interrupting her.

Qiao Mo was slightly bewildered, took a breath and looked at the phone.

A string of unfamiliar numbers caused her to furrow her brows slightly, she answered softly: "Hello? Who is this?"

"Is this Qiao Xuan's sister? I'm the school principal; Qiao Xuan suddenly fainted at school. I tried reaching his mother for almost two hours now... but she's still not here..."

"Where are you? I'm coming right away!" Qiao Mo's heart tightened, she clutched her phone tightly, her voice trembling slightly.

"At the Seventh Central Hospital..."

Beside her, Jiang Jinghao seemed to have heard the urgency in the call, and immediately went to start the car.

Half an hour later, they rushed to the Seventh Central Hospital; a middle-aged woman in a wool coat was pacing back and forth in front of the surgery room. Upon seeing Qiao Mo, she hurriedly approached…

"Director Su, how did Xiao Xuan suddenly faint?"

"I'm not exactly sure what happened; I just heard from students that he suddenly collapsed while playing basketball at school without any warning, terrifying everyone..."

"How long has he been inside?"

"More than two hours."

Hearing this, Qiao Mo asked no more, only silently watching the still-lit surgery light.
