Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 In the Mist

It's just that Tang Yuxiu is really too picky, isn't he!

Who in the world could put up with him?!

If there's really someone, please come out and let me admire you!

"Alright, you can go now."

With the big boss's permission, Gu Yan couldn't wait to leave this stiflingly oppressive place.

As soon as she left Luoshui Apartment, she eagerly called Xue Xianglan to share her success.

Compared to Tang Yuxiu's unbearable obsession with cleanliness, she was more thrilled to keep her job.

"I told you not to worry, now go and have a good meal."

"Alright, I won't talk to you now, I'm really hungry!"

Worried she might lose her job, Gu Yan hadn't eaten much last night and skipped breakfast this morning. Now, the moment she left that building, she felt the sunshine was bright and her hunger was becoming more apparent.

Gu Yan hung up the phone and was about to cross the street to head home when a white sports car suddenly sped past her side. She didn't have time to dodge and was knocked to the ground.

The white sports car quickly disappeared into the distance, and Gu Yan clutched her bumped elbow and butt, glaring through gritted teeth in the car's disappearing direction.

"What kind of person is that?! Driving a sports car like they're so great! Have some decency!"

Rich people are all the same!

Tang Yuxiu is full of issues, and this guy doesn't even stop to check on someone he hit!

Gu Yan complained as she walked across the street, vanishing around the corner.

At the spot where she fell, a white sports car stopped, and a person got out, looking around and muttering, "Where did they go?"

The person couldn't find Gu Yan, whom he accidentally knocked over, so he drove off, heading straight back to Luoshui Apartment, and went up to the fifteenth floor.

Gu Yan passed a high-end restaurant, where elegant and luxurious piano music drifted out, and she couldn't help but stop and listen.

It was Janáček's In The Mists. Perhaps this piece isn't very popular or famous, but Gu Yan liked its melody, especially the name.

In The Mists, in the fog.

She felt this piece was like expressing her life, lost in the fog, not knowing which direction to go, unable to find her way out.

She loved the piano, but someone who couldn't even afford college, how could she ever have the chance to learn such a noble instrument.

All she could do was listen sneakily, watch secretly.

When the piece ended, Gu Yan looked at her own dazed reflection in the restaurant's glass, quickly turned, and left.

The piano, for her, was an unattainable dream.

Too distant, so distant that it was only a dream.

In the afternoon, with Tang Yuxiu not in the apartment, Gu Yan's work was much more relaxed, and she left work half an hour earlier than usual.

Returning home, she headed straight to the kitchen, planning to cook dinner for herself as a reward.

The phone rang, and Gu Yan joyfully ran to get her cellphone. But seeing the word "Mom" on the screen, the smile on her face gradually faded.

She almost forgot, today is the 15th, and there's something she must do that she hasn't yet.

The phone rang for a while before she pressed the answer button. Before she could speak, a voice came through from the other side.

"Gu Yan, why did you take so long to answer the phone?" Mrs. Gu's voice was only accusatory and dissatisfied.

Gu Yan replied indifferently, "Just got off work, cooking."

Hearing her explanation, Mrs. Gu didn't dwell on the matter, and Gu Yan continued to ask, "Mom, what's up?"

"Can't I call you for no reason?"

Even through the phone screen, Gu Yan knew her mother's expression—impatient and annoyed.
