Chapter 9 - The World Rulers

The Human Continent – Thermora

It was the evening of the Awakening Ceremony, a day long awaited across the continents of Aldoria. Inside the Holy Palace, in one of its many crystalline meeting chambers, a gathering of great importance was taking place. Though only one of the continent's rulers was physically present—King Vortan of the Human Kingdom—the flickering projections of the other monarchs hovered in mid-air around the grand obsidian table. Magic crystals embedded into the polished surface pulsed softly with blue light, maintaining the connections.

"I believe we are all present now," King Vortan declared as he rose from his seat, his voice calm but filled with weight. "With that, I hereby declare this meeting officially in session."

The air shifted. Everyone knew why they had been summoned.

"If I am correct," Vortan began, "the awakening of saints across every continent—at the exact same moment—is unprecedented in the entire history of Aldoria."

He paused, letting the statement sink in. Even among these seasoned rulers, murmurs of agreement and curiosity stirred.

"We are at the dawn of a new age. A golden era that was prophesied long ago. The old texts foretold it… and now, the signs are here."

As if to emphasize his words, Vortan lifted a hand, conjuring an ancient script into the air. The text shimmered with golden light and projected a familiar verse known to all those present:

"A great calamity shall shadow the world,And six shall rise—marked by divinity,The one anointed by the serpent-god's breath,Shall be led by the One Who Walks Between,To stand as the world's last defense."

Silence filled the chamber.

"These six saints, the chosen ones, are destined to be our salvation. But only if we nurture them correctly. That is why I propose we begin training them immediately. We should assign the finest instructors and guardians our lands have to offer. Warriors, scholars, and mages of the highest caliber—let them guide the saints. We must act swiftly."

There was a moment of contemplation before King Tharion of the Merfolk spoke, his voice echoing through the watery filter of his projection.

"I believe that is a wise proposal. I stand in full support of it."

Queen Elyndra of the Elves nodded, her expression thoughtful. "Indeed. But I would like to suggest a refinement. The saints, as we know, are still children. We should ensure that their training is appropriate for their age—challenging, yes, but not overwhelming. Let us not rob them of their childhood entirely in the name of destiny."

A wave of agreement moved through the room. Even among the hardened rulers of Aldoria, there was an unspoken understanding that while duty called, childhood was not something to be snatched away carelessly.

"I have no objections," said King Oryven of the Beastmen. "Let the young ones grow strong, but let them grow free too."

Queen Lylith of the Demons added, "The balance between nurturing power and protecting innocence is a fragile one—but vital."

Finally, Dragon King Drazan spoke, his voice deep and ancient. "I also approve of the plan. Let us prepare our champions for the coming storm."

King Vortan gave a small nod. "Then it's settled. May the preparations begin immediately. If there are no further matters…"

No one spoke.

One by one, the magical projections blinked out of existence, leaving Vortan alone in the chamber. He exhaled, the weight of leadership pressing down on him like never before.

Draventha – The Whitlock Family Estate

Back in the capital city of Draventha, within the estate of House Whitlock, celebration had finally drawn to a close. Lucas, the young heir of the Whitlock family, had recently awakened as one of the saints—a moment that brought both joy and anxiety to his household. With his identity now known to the kingdom, messages had arrived almost instantly.

One such message bore the royal seal.

Lucas' parents, aware of the importance behind a personal summons from King Vortan himself, decided they would accompany their son to the palace at first light.

Meanwhile, Lucas sat on the edge of his bed, legs dangling over the side, eyes fixed on a glowing screen visible only to him.

"Whoa... So all my stats jumped just like that?" Lucas blinked, still trying to process the numbers. "Must be from the awakening... I did feel a lot stronger afterwards. I thought it was my imagination."

He scratched his head and chuckled. "Well, I'm not the type to overthink things."

Still, one thing had been bothering him. He had long suspected the system might be more than just a passive interface.

"What if it could... talk?"

Acting on a whim, he spoke aloud: "Hey, system? Are you there? Can you talk?"

To his surprise, a voice echoed in his mind.

"Yes, host. I can talk. I have always been here."

Lucas jolted upright. "What the hell?! Then why didn't you say anything before?"

"I never hid it. We've spoken before. You simply forgot. It was the day you were reborn into this world. I sent you a welcome message."

Lucas paused, trying to remember. "…Wait, now that you mention it, I do vaguely recall something like that. You told me I had been reincarnated, right?"

"Correct."

"Wow. Can't believe I forgot that," Lucas muttered, shaking his head. "Anyway, since we're talking now, can you explain how this 'Copy' authority works?"

"Certainly, host. Simply click on the authority in your status window, and a detailed description will appear."

Lucas followed the instruction. As he clicked on the [Authority: Copy] tab, a new text box appeared beneath it.

Copy (Authority):This unique divine authority allows the host to copy abilities, skills, techniques, bloodlines or powers from any individual or object. Copying is successful only if the host is physically or magically strong enough to handle the copied ability. Restrictions and cooldowns apply based on level and compatibility. The host will receive detailed prompts when eligible for a copy event.

Lucas stared in awe.

"This… this is insane. I can literally copy anything?!" he said, eyes wide. "I need to figure out the limits of this power, fast."

He leaned back against the headboard, mind racing. If he could copy magic, martial arts, bloodlines—anything—he might become overpowered in no time. But if it required strength to handle the ability, then he had work to do. He couldn't afford to stay weak.

Just then, a notification sound chimed in his mind.
