The Uchiha fell into deep thought. Even Nono, an outsider, had heard back then about the Uchiha being exiled.
For a clan so proud, being suppressed and marginalized like that—having thoughts of rebellion wasn't abnormal, not having them would be.
"Captain, was the Nine-Tails really released by the Uchiha?" one Uchiha asked.
"No."
Uchiha Yu replied.
Could Obito at that time still truly be considered Uchiha?
"We discovered in Kirigakure that the Fourth Mizukage was also controlled by the Sharingan. So there are others in the ninja world who possess the Sharingan!"
One Uchiha spat angrily:
"Konoha never even tried to uncover the truth. So we owe Konoha nothing. We never did. Yet they only wanted us dead!"
"…"
The sorrow in Izumi's eyes slowly faded, replaced by the yin-based chakra of her eyes, enhancing her pupil power.
Those beautiful eyes of hers were now filled with resolve.
"Captain, now that we've captured Shinno, what do we do next?"
Minami asked.
"Collect debts—and repay debts."
Uchiha Yu said calmly.
The Uchiha didn't quite understand their captain's words. They understood what it meant to collect debts.
But to repay debts…
They only half-understood.
On the night of the massacre, there were three who wiped out the Uchiha clan.
Obito, Itachi, and Uchiha Yu.
Uchiha Yu never avoided admitting that he personally killed the Uchiha clan's elite shinobi.
The fact that he survived was thanks to those Uchiha who died at his hands.
He was no saint—back then, only by sacrificing those Uchiha could he seize the hope of survival through his Mangekyō..
Nor was he one to swing his blade against the weak.
Before striking at the Uchiha, he had already left behind a spark for them—to endure in silence, so that today he could draw his blade against the stronger.
Without him, aside from Sasuke, Itachi, and Obito, the Uchiha clan would have had no one left.
It was only now that Uchiha Yu finally understood the meaning of his coming to the shinobi world.
To survive, he would bear the infamy, stain his hands with blood, and replant the withered "existence" that had once been ravaged by storms, granting it hope of rebirth.
Now, he was just one step away.
What he owed to the Uchiha, he could finally repay—and he hated being indebted to anyone.
But the root cause of the Uchiha's downfall was, in truth, this rotting shinobi world.
Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo divided chakra among mankind with good intentions, but he never taught them how to wield it.
Nor did he have the power to teach. That single act twisted the Ōtsutsuki family's discord into endless conflicts between shinobi clans and wars between nations.
Chakra had not changed the shinobi world—it had instead exposed the ugliness of humanity.
War, schemes, slaughter—these were the true themes of the shinobi world.
Since the rot lay in the very roots of this world, Uchiha Yu did not mind uprooting it entirely—restoring order through unification, and ending this cycle of chaos.
He would cut off hatred at its source, in his own way.
That was the meaning of his existence in the shinobi world.
Moments later, Uchiha Yu led his people to the designated refuge cave of the Sarutobi clan.
A foul stench assaulted them—the ground ran thick with blood.
"Don't kill me… don't kill me!"
"Help me!"
"I'm not an important member of the Sarutobi clan, I'm not—"
In the shadows, five or six shinobi from the Three Great Villages had cornered the last dozen or so surviving adults of the Sarutobi clan.
Inside the cave, corpses lay scattered everywhere.
When the Uchiha entered, the enemy shinobi turned sharply, glaring at the intruders with vicious killing intent.
They did not know the newcomers' purpose, but instinctively leveled their blades at the Uchiha.
These shinobi had already gone mad with bloodlust, venting years of hatred from past wars against Konoha upon helpless civilians.
"…"
Uchiha Yu stared silently at the corpses of the Sarutobi commoners on the ground.
These were supposed to be his amusement, ever since he captured Shinno.
Yet before he had even acted against the Sarutobi, the shinobi of the Three Great Villages had slaughtered them all.
The other Uchiha, having lived through the night of their own clan's massacre, now bore only deep hatred for Konoha's leadership.
Even if every ordinary member of the Sarutobi, Hyūga, and other clans of Konoha were butchered, they would feel no pity.
And they knew well—Uchiha Yu hadn't brought them here to save anyone.
"Since you've robbed me of my amusement… then you can die too."
Uchiha Yu sighed.
At his words, the Uchiha at his back leapt forward, their Sharingan glowing red in the darkness.
"…"
The shinobi of the Three Great Villages had wanted to strike first. But before they could act, the Uchiha had already crushed both their lives and their wills.
"Ah—!"
From the corner came the shrill screams of the few Sarutobi survivors, terrified that the slaughter would soon fall upon them.
"…It will be over soon."
Uchiha Yu walked toward the corner.
He took out the Edo Tensei Corpse Scroll that Orochimaru had given him and placed it on the ground.
Forming hand seals—
Boom!
A cloud of smoke spread.
Asuma's Edo Tensei body appeared before Uchiha Yu, slowly opening his eyes.
In the next moment, the Yasakani imprint appeared in his pupils.
"Yu… where is this? Didn't I… die?" Asuma looked around, and when his gaze fell upon the familiar faces lying lifeless on the ground—
"Konohamaru is… dead… all dead!"
Asuma's eyes widened, a chilling cold creeping up from his spine to the crown of his head.
"It was you. You killed them. Uchiha Yu! How could you slaughter my clan like this?!" Asuma roared, his face twisted in rage as he glared at Yu.
"Your eyes aren't blind. It's because we were classmates and you knew my strength back then—that's why you led people to hunt me down, wasn't it?"
Yu plucked a forehead protector from the head of a fallen Cloud ninja beside him and tossed it in front of Asuma.
"…"
Asuma lowered his head. Sure enough, among the corpses of his kin, he saw the bodies of other ninja from different villages.
He froze in a daze.
Yu spoke:
"You say I destroyed the Uchiha clan—that I'm the butcher.
Then today, I'll let you personally experience what it means to slaughter your own clan."
"Y-You…" The mark of the Yasakani in Asuma's eyes flickered.
Against his will, he stood up, walked to a corner, crouched, and picked up a kunai before moving toward his clansmen.
"Asuma, no—don't! I'm your uncle! Don't do this!"
"Asuma, big brother!"
"Ugh—!"
The desperate screams of his clansmen echoed in Asuma's ears, but his hand did not falter. The kunai pierced through them, blood splattering his hands and face.
Asuma let out a broken howl:
"No! Yu, why did you go this far? Why?!"
Uchiha Yu calmly watched the scene.
"Because all of you believe I was born evil."
---
In front of the Hokage building.
When Hiruzen Sarutobi and Shimura Danzō saw the Complete-Body Susanoo standing motionless before the shelter, they finally led the Sarutobi clan's army of ninja to the nearby streets.
But before they could advance further—
Puppet masters from Sunagakure lurking in the shadows, along with Konoha ninja previously under Yu's control, launched a sudden ambush.
"Danzō, hold them off! I'll rescue the people!" Hiruzen roared.
He couldn't afford to waste more time. He intended to lead the Sarutobi clan ninja away from the battlefield.
"What made you think an Edo Tensei corpse like me could stop them?"
Danzō stretched his neck and bellowed.
Then he unleashed a Wind Release at one puppet. It only faltered briefly before continuing its assault.
Danzō truly was weak now, just like the First Hokage's state—barely one-tenth of his former strength. But at least, as an Edo Tensei, he could never die.
"Damn it!" Hiruzen cried out. "Kill them all!"
He had wanted to preserve more of the Sarutobi clan's forces, but now his desperation to save his people outweighed everything.
At that moment—
Edo Tensei Asuma emerged from the shattered rocks, his bloodstained hands dangling lifelessly, his blank eyes staring straight at Hiruzen.
He looked like someone who had walked straight out of hell.
"Father—"
Asuma's voice cracked in despair.
