Getting home, drained in tears, Mebi vowed to never go through embarrassment like that again, and no one he knows would... Series of events took place, and life moments hit everyone. Those who had already been hit were recovering ten times, and those who hadn't lost ten more times.
Election years were over, a new tenure began, and due to some little misunderstanding, UC had with his party, they decided it was time for him to go home. And so it was; a rigged election was held, and despite losing the election, some didn't just want it to end there; they wanted more, and they decided to add money laundering into it.
Being professionally safe, after the election, it was found that he had laundered money to different banks across the world, and he was arrested and found guilty of the charges. He was jailed for four years but was bailed out after two years. After that, the tragedy of life hit him so hard that he had nothing to offer anymore to his family.
But that wasn't all that came to pass; he couldn't find any work in the country, and all he could see to do was carry things around and sell them in bits.
As God would have it, a phone call came in, and the once almighty and rich Governor, holding his Nokia phone, picked it up and heard a cry from the other side. It was his wife, calling to inform him that their little boy had just gotten involved in an accident and was rushed to the hospital.
Hopeless and tired, he left everything and rushed to the hospital with tears in his eyes. Meeting his wife, with panic written all over her face, he rushed towards her. "What is the matter?" "The doctors refused to start his treatment until a deposit was paid." "How much is it?" "One hundred and seventy thousand was the deposit, but the full payment was three hundred thousand."
UC fell to the ground, hopeless, as he didn't have twenty thousand, talk more of one hundred or even the three hundred they were talking about. "UC, you need to do something; we can't let our son die, please," his wife pleaded with tears in her eyes as she looked towards their son, who was already half dead. "He's our only son... do something."
Panic rose as the temperature in the hospital changed for the worst. And just then, a little thought crossed his mind, and he decided to use his formal approach to plead on behalf of his son. "Nurse, please, I would love to see the hand doctor." "That won't be necessary, sir." "Please, I need to speak with him."
After much pleading, the nurse decided to meet the doctor on his behalf, but to her surprise, the doctor wasn't around; the higher doctor, the owner of the hospital, was the one around. "Mr. UC, we might have a little problem with that; the doctor in charge isn't around. The one we have is the highest doctor, our superior. I'm not sure he would be interested if you haven't paid anything." "I would still love to meet him personally." "Well, if that's what you want, okay."
The nurse led him to the office and went in first to announce the entrance of the stranger. After every explanation, she was asked to let him in. A knock came on the door, and a voice echoed, "Come in." Pushing the door wide open, he froze at the spot, no word daring to come out, and not because of the fancy things in it or the atmosphere, but because of the person sitting right in front of him.
After a long little wait, the person asked to come in, the doctor raised his eyes and met with that of a very familiar person. Pushing aside all his work, he leaned back in his turning chair, and that alone sent a red flag to UC, so he turned to leave. "No... please come in; I'm not a politician," said Mebi.
After much long pleading from UC, Mebi remembered all their time together as best friends, as brothers, and as enemies. Despite all his efforts to push the bad ones away, he still remembered it, but he pushed it aside, took his coat, and headed to the operating room. After hours of operation, he came out and announced the news of a good operation and headed back to his office. Even after all the pleading, there are just some memories that never die.
