Chapter 11 - Attack On The City

Meanwhile, in the city after Marcus left, the mayor sat on a chair and turned towards the window.

He gazed at the dipping sun and muttered. "The place where the centipede attacked was also the place where Saitama defeated the wolf."

He joined his hands and began to tap his fingertips. "Attacking that location on the night of the blue moon, they likely aimed to lure Zamezon's disciple."

He squinted his eyes, delving deeper into the theory. "The Blue Moon is a mystery, and so is the appearance of Zamezon."

Sighing, he nodded. "Either they have come across a way to stop Zamezon, or they might be planning something big."

"But sending a mere A-ranked centipede for Zamezon's disciple is outrageous and not something that I can believe." He turned his chair around, placing his legs on the empty table. "Arplesis... These bastards might be playing some tricks."

After a pause, he burst into laughter. "Whatever they might be planning, one thing's for certain—they're in the dark about the truth."

Fixing his tie, he grinned. "The truth that both Zamezon and his disciple are dead."

Suddenly, someone knocked at his door. "It's an emergency!"

The mayor instantly stood up, rushing towards the door knob. At the door was the same skinny, middle-aged man in his forties.

"What happened?" The mayor exited, rushing towards the staircase.

"Two A-ranked centipedes have emerged out of the market plaza!" The middle-aged man explained. "They have already dealt severe damage!"

"Have the citizens evacuated?" The mayor rushed through the steps.

The middle-aged man caught up with the mayor. "Yes, the commander has already taken care of that."

Soon, they reached the ground floor and walked towards a room with a metal door.

However, at the destroyed plaza, ten modern-day tanks launched missiles at the centipedes.

The plaza was devastated. The once-high buildings were crushed down to debris. The concrete road was left shattered, leaving only some of its remains behind.

A centipede on the left side of a tank filled its mouth with air, eventually throwing spurts of corrosive acid at it. The acid was so powerful that the heavy tank was instantly melted to smithereens.

"Commander! What should we do next!?" One of the people stationed in the tanks shouted.

The other centipede noticed the sounds and lunged towards it, immediately destroying the tank on impact.

It snorted, "Is this all these pesky humans are capable of?"

Meanwhile, the other one continued to destroy the remaining tanks. "Those lab rats humiliated us! What an easy fight!"

A few more tanks and foot soldiers with futuristic AK-47s arrived at the scene. "Shoot!"

BLUM!

BOOM!

BLASK!

The centipedes fell down but immediately stood back up. "Are these things supposed to be bullets?" They laughed uncontrollably.

Soldiers gritted their teeth in anger while they both roared, making all of the rubble in the surroundings fly. "Get a taste of magic!"

They launched it at the foot soldiers at the speed of sound, painting the floor in red. "Oh wait, they can't taste magic as they can't use it!" the centipede on the right laughed.

As soon as the centipede started to laugh, the tanks launched even bigger missiles on it. But the strike couldn't land a scratch.

"This was the mission they gave us? Obliterating such a weak city? Those bastards take us lightly!" One of the centipedes swung its tail, destroying the remains of the road along with the tanks.

Meanwhile, the other one constantly destroyed the parts of the city with its psychic magic.

Suddenly, a beam of yellow light passed through the centipede that constantly used magic, making its entire body freeze. After a moment, its upper body turned into shreds, evaporating it in one strike.

As soon as the other centipede saw the death of its brother, it roared. "WHAT THE HELL!? YOU INSECTS JUST HAD TO DO IT HUH? GOOD JOB FUELING MY ANGER!"

"The backup has arrived!" One of the injured soldiers cried, holding his half-cut right arm.

The centipede lunged at the injured soldier, its sharp teeth tearing through flesh and bone, consuming him alive. "Now you've forced me to go all out!"

It moved its sharp claws as it crawled towards the remaining city, destroying everything that came in its sight.

A multitude of magnificent skyscrapers crumbled, reducing medieval buildings to ashes. The remains were then used to unfold even more chaos.

A new group of soldiers and tanks arrived at the scene. This time, the tanks were twice the size, and the soldiers took cover behind them, deploying machine guns on the ground.

"Stall it till the master weapon recharges!" One of them shouted before all of them began to shoot.

As expected, the bullets were unable to pierce through the steel-like skin of the centipede. However, the missiles released by the tanks did some damage, causing it to retreat.

"We can do it! Keep shooting until we run out!" Another one screamed.

BLAM!

KLAM!

"Ugh..." The damage rendered the centipede paralyzed. "These humans..."

Soon, another beam of light emerged out of thin air, piercing through the centipede.

"We won!" The soldiers jumped in happiness.

Some of the soldiers hugged each other to celebrate the victory, while others gave a salute to the fallen allies.

"It's not over yet!" The voice of the mayor echoed from the loudspeakers installed on the streetlights. "Patrol the city! There's always a possibility of more trouble!"

The soldiers immediately rushed in different directions. But suddenly, the dead centipede spoke. "Y-You're right. It's not over yet!"

Despite a large hole carved into its giant body, it stood up and lunged towards the soldiers. The strike rendered most of the soldiers either wounded or dead.

"H-How?" One of the soldiers whose limbs got torn off muttered.

Immediately, the mayor announced. "Avenge our fallen soldiers!"

BLAM!

BOOM!

The tanks launched missiles towards its upper, damaged body, hoping to deal some damage. The foot soldiers fired continuously, exhausting all of their ammunition.

"Not so soon!" The centipede growled and used magic to make the debris around it fly.

However, this time, the soldiers were prepared. They shot the flying debris mid-air, rendering the centipede's attacks useless.

Soon, they managed to cut off its upper body from its lower body, finishing it off. At last, they could only hope for no more trouble...
