CHAPTER 15
It didn't take long before the world burst into chaos.
The café-bar was running as usual, although with Jake absent, customer service was noticeably slower that night.
"What's wrong with these youngsters these days? First Xia stopped coming, and now Jake isn't showing up either," Mr. Stowe, the manager, thought.
A loud scream from outside the building suddenly caught his attention. Deciding to see what was happening for himself, he walked to the entrance and opened the door, then he saw a man attacking a woman.
"Hey, jerk! Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" Stowe shouted, unable to stop himself from intervening.
The man slowly looked up.
His eyes glowed a terrifying yellow.
Blood covered his mouth, and clamped between his teeth was the woman's torn oesophagus after he had bitten through her neck.
The sight before him sent chills racing down his spine.
"What... what is this?" Mr. Stowe thought.
Before he could react, the man sprang toward him.
Stowe quickly rushed back into the café-bar and slammed the glass door shut, locking it behind him, believing he had escaped the monster.
"Listen up, everyone! No one is leaving this building for the meantime! Erick, call the cops immediately!"
Stowe spoke with his back turned to the entrance.
Before anyone could protest, the glass door exploded into countless shards.
The yellow-eyed man charged through the broken entrance and tackled Mr. Stowe from behind. He sank his teeth deep into the manager's neck, then drove his clawed hand into the back of his head, ripping open his skull before crushing it with horrifying force.
The café-bar instantly descended into chaos.
Customers screamed in terror as they rushed toward every possible exit. The fortunate ones managed to escape, while others were ripped apart as more yellow-eyed humans flooded into the café-bar, drawn by the scent of fresh blood.
Among the unfortunate was a certain blonde-haired newbie.
She stood completely frozen in fear.
Then a woman with brown hair, her clothes drenched in blood, slowly turned her gaze toward her.
The most terrifying part...
Her eyes glowed yellow.
The woman locked eyes with the blonde girl and snarled before slowly creeping toward her.
Lily stumbled backward, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face. She tripped over a fallen chair and crashed onto the floor.
The yellow-eyed woman continued walking toward her.
And then...
---
Inside a large manor occupied by only three people, Jake switched on the television and saw the breaking news being reported by two familiar faces.
"At the moment, there appear to be aggressive people with peculiar glowing yellow eyes. They are attacking everyone on sight. The police and other emergency forces are doing everything in their power to contain the situation. It is in your best interest to stay indoors, stock up on as much food as possible, don't trust anyone, and do not open your door until there is an official public broadcast declaring it safe. Stay indoors, stay safe, and God bless America."
Stacy forced a smile as she delivered the report, though her trembling hands betrayed her fear. Beside her, Tronne remained unusually silent, barely responsive as he stared into the camera.
"It has begun," Jake thought grimly.
He immediately picked up his phone and dialed his father's number once again.
"Why isn't he answering? Oh no... has he turned into one of those monsters?"
