Chapter 142 - Chapter 142: Can Humans Become Gods? The Existence of Mass-Producing Gods!

"Twenty-five meters tall and weighs five tons?"

If this thing wasn't Godzilla, then what could it be?

Everyone in the S.H.I.E.L.D. control room stared at the screen, speechless.

Even Nick Fury's expression hardened, a rare moment of genuine shock crossing his face. His mind instantly recalled a nightmare scenario.

Only now did he begin to understand the true horror behind SCP-3396.

It made perfect sense now—why so many powerful organizations risked war with the Foundation just to gain access to it.

SCP-3396 wasn't just a biological anomaly—it was a machine that could mass-produce monsters.

One drop of the strange fluid had transformed a tiny lizard into a towering beast. If that was possible… what would happen if the liquid were injected directly into the bloodstream of something larger? What would happen to apex predators like lions or tigers?

A chill ran down Fury's spine at the thought.

The screen continued to play.

Hearing the calm explanation from the Foundation's supervisor, even James, sitting quietly, couldn't hide his surprise.

"The second experiment involved a male golden retriever," the supervisor said, emotionless. "We injected it with 4 cubic centimeters of SCP-3396."

The audience across the world, watching the live broadcast, held their breath.

"Within two hours," the supervisor went on, "the dog's fur fell off completely. Strange, horn-like structures started growing all over its body."

The audience gasped.

"Vivisection showed that its body had developed multiple unfamiliar organs and tissues. However, the creature remained alive and active. It also displayed extreme self-healing abilities, recovering from wounds within seconds. More importantly... there was no change in behavior."

At Stark Industries, Tony Stark jumped up from his seat.

"Wait… not larger? But it can heal itself instantly?" His eyes widened.

Beside him, Colonel Rhodes furrowed his brows, reading the summary.

"No behavioral change? That means this dog just… evolved. It became harder, stronger, and it didn't even lose its mind."

The two men looked at each other, both recognizing how dangerous—and tempting—that sounded.

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, agents stared at the footage in awe.

Nick Fury was quiet, but his mind was racing.

A bearded dragon turned into a monster, and now a retriever became a regenerating beast.

He suddenly blurted out, "If you reverse the thought process—what if this isn't just corruption? What if this is evolution?"

The room went silent.

Maria Hill nodded slowly. "Each transformation seems unique… customized evolution."

Fury looked at her sharply.

"What would happen… if a human came into contact with it?"

On screen, James leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand and tapping the table rhythmically.

"So, what about human trials?" he asked.

The audience online exploded with anticipation.

The supervisor paused and pulled a file from his coat.

"We tested on a 28-year-old woman. We applied a drop of SCP-3396 to the skin of her arm."

There was no immediate change, but then, she said something strange.

"I understand firepower."

James frowned. "What does that even mean?"

The supervisor continued. "Moments later, rotating cannons formed out of thin air around her arms. She opened fire on Foundation staff and escaped."

The world watching the broadcast was stunned.

"Guns out of nowhere?!"

"The subject's body exploded repeatedly, but regenerated each time. The shattered pieces floating around her turned into floating weapons—mini-cannons, launchers… like an armory with legs."

Thirty-seven Foundation personnel died in that incident.

The room fell completely silent.

Then came a flood of online reactions.

> "WTF? She became a living weapons factory?"

> "This liquid gives people superpowers?"

> "I want it! Where do I sign up?"

> "Mass production of superheroes incoming!"

At S.H.I.E.L.D., the mood shifted instantly.

Some agents were stunned, others visibly excited.

The temptation was impossible to ignore.

What if anyone could become a superhero just by touching the stuff?

But Nick Fury's face darkened even further.

This wasn't just power.

This was a loss of control.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had always operated with structure, hierarchy, and limits.

But SCP-3396 broke every rule. It could create an army of super-powered beings—without any regulation.

"Good thing," Fury muttered, "that this only exists in the Foundation's universe…"

But even that didn't calm his nerves.

He now understood why so many people were willing to die just to fight the Foundation for this thing.

A force that can give power to anyone, with unpredictable results… must either be fully controlled—or destroyed.

At Kamar-Taj, the Ancient One was watching too.

As a master of mystical arts, her power came from years of discipline, study, and tapping into ancient forces.

To her, the path to power was hard-earned.

Yet here was a substance that turned normal people into super-powered beings instantly?

She was shaken. The foundation of her beliefs felt rattled.

At Xavier's School, Professor X said nothing.

But inside, he was deeply disturbed.

He had spent his life guiding Mutants, people born with strange powers due to genetic mutations.

Some, like Magneto, believed in forcibly transforming all humans into Mutants. But even Magneto knew that was nearly impossible.

Now… this "SCP-3396" could actually make that idea a reality. Easily.

Back at Stark Tower, Tony scoffed.

"Figures," he grumbled. "Everyone chasing mutations again. What happened to good ol' tech-based evolution?"

Rhodes smirked. "Not everyone's a billionaire genius."

"There's a saying," Rhodes added. "The poor rely on mutations. The rich? Technology."

Tony chuckled but said nothing. Even he felt tempted.

Then, on-screen, the supervisor announced: "Second human trial: male, 42. This time, he inhaled SCP-3396 fumes."

Three hours passed with no effect.

Then… the room changed.

Five identical copies appeared.

All five said together:

"Only fools reject the blessings of magic."

Then, they merged into one horrific creature: ten arms, disfigured body, dozens of floating severed hands, each with an eye.

Water flooded the chamber. The creature vanished.

The screen faded to black.

The silence that followed was unnerving.

> "Wait, magic now??"

> "How does a science experiment turn into a magical god?"

> "It disappeared like the woman before… is this going to be a pattern?"

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D., some agents looked like they were watching a horror movie.

"This isn't just mutation," one agent whispered. "It's madness."

But Nick Fury shook his head.

"No. Most people transformed by SCP-3396 retain their memory and personality."

Natasha Romanoff gasped. "You mean… that man already believed in magic?"

Fury nodded grimly. "Whatever he believed in… gave that thing form."

The supervisor returned to the screen.

"No patterns found in mutations. Effects are random, but most lead to dangerous anomalies. Containment breaches are frequent."

His words rang like a death sentence.
