Dusk's head lifted the rest of the way, eyes narrowing against the daylight until they found Jiang's face and settled there, sharp despite everything the night had cost him.
"You," he said, voice rough from disuse. "The lord's son."
"That's right."
Dusk let out a short, humorless breath through his nose. The chains creaked faintly as he shifted his weight, testing them out of habit more than hope. "Come to gloat?"
"No." Jiang folded his arms and stayed where he was, close but not close enough to seem like he was looming over him. "I came for a name."
"Then you're wasting your time."
"Maybe." Jiang tilted his head slightly, studying him the way he might have studied an opponent's stance before a duel, looking for whatever small thing would give the rest away. "But you're not as loyal to whoever hired you as you'd like me to think."
Dusk's jaw tightened, and that alone told Jiang he'd landed closer than he'd expected to on the first try.
