The creature roared in anger. "It doesn't matter! I have enough power to destroy you all!"
That's when I heard something that made my heart stop. Footsteps. Lots of them. Coming from the tube behind us.
"Help is coming," I told Aria. "Just hold on."
But when I turned to look, my blood went cold. It wasn't help. It was pack members. Our pack members. But their eyes were black. Empty. Just like the creature's.
"What did you do?" I whispered.
The fake me smiled. "I didn't just take your thoughts. I took theirs too. Everyone who came to help you. They're mine now."
At least twenty wolves entered the room. I recognized them all. Beta Marcus. Elder Malin. Even Mira, Aria's best friend. They all had the same blank stare.
"Mira!" Aria called out. "It's me! It's Aria!"
But Mira didn't reply. She just stood there, waiting for orders from the thing.
"Kill them," the first darkness ordered. "All of them."
