Everyone stared at the Creator in shock.
"You?" the Moon Goddess said. "But... you don't love. You create."
"I create because I love," the Creator said simply. "Every star, every planet, every living thing. I made them all because I loved the idea of them existing. But I've never been able to connect to them the way they connect to each other."
I began to understand. "You're lonely."
"Eternally," the Creator admitted. "I can make friends, but I can't be friends. I can make love, but I can't feel it. Not the way humans do."
"So what are you proposing?" I asked.
"I finish the ritual. I save the common mate bond. But instead of you losing your feelings of love, I take them into myself. For the first time in life, I experience what it feels like to truly love someone."
"And what happens to me?"
"You become what I am. A maker. Immortal. Powerful. But cut off from the very emotions that make life meaningful."
