Chapter 170 - CHAPTER 170

Kakashi in Despair

Kakashi stood before the Fourth Hokage, his voice low and cold.

"Lord Fourth… can Takei Katsuhiko be sentenced to death?"

Minato Namikaze's expression hardened. "Kakashi… the dead cannot return. What Katsuhiko did was inexcusable, but I believe he should be given a chance—a chance to atone."

Kakashi scoffed, his eyes narrowing. "A chance? You give him a chance?" He stepped forward. "Tell me, Minato-sensei—who gave Obito a chance? Wasn't he your subordinate too?"

Minato remained silent.

Kakashi turned toward Chi Yu. "Teacher, I'm still the squad captain… right?"

Chi Yu exchanged a glance with Minato, then smiled faintly. "Indeed. Your captaincy was jointly approved by both of us. Therefore, it requires both our consent to revoke—and I do not agree to its removal."

Without hesitation, Kakashi formed a Chidori, the signature lightning chakra bursting from his hand with a high-pitched screech. He drove it mercilessly toward Takei Katsuhiko's chest.

But in a blur, Minato caught Kakashi's wrist. "Kakashi—don't!"

Takei Katsuhiko stood frozen, pale with fear.

Chi Yu unsheathed his blade slightly, eyes sharp. "Minato Namikaze… are you interfering with a captain executing a wartime traitor?"

Minato's brows drew together. "Chi Yu, why can't you just listen—"

"Listen to you?" Chi Yu spat, tone seething. "Why should I? You protect a man who betrayed his comrades. You speak of fairness, yet you ignore the pain of those left behind." His glare burned. "Obito died under your command. What justice is there for him?"

He gestured to Kakashi. "He's acting according to the shinobi regulations. As captain, he has the right to eliminate a traitor during wartime. You have no authority to intervene."

Chi Yu's voice dropped to a threatening whisper. "If you raise your hand against Kakashi again… I will consider it an act of treason."

Minato's face paled, then flushed green with restrained fury. Slowly, reluctantly, he released Kakashi's arm.

He couldn't refute it. Kakashi's command had legal standing. And Takei Katsuhiko had leaked crucial intel, contributing to Uchiha Obito's death.

The moment Minato let go, Kakashi drove his Chidori straight through Takei's chest. Blood splattered onto his face.

Kakashi's expression remained like ice—utterly emotionless.

Minato turned away, unable to bear the sight.

Rin Nohara collapsed to her knees, tears welling up. The day had unraveled so quickly… and nothing felt familiar anymore.

Nightfall

Kakashi sat alone atop a large stone, gazing blankly into the night sky.

Chi Yu approached quietly and sat beside him. He looked up, then asked, "What do you see?"

Kakashi's voice was flat. "Nothing. Just darkness."

He paused. "Sensei… I think I'm starting to lose faith in Konoha."

Chi Yu was quiet for a moment. "The moment I first stepped into this village, I already knew. Konoha hides rot beneath its polished surface. Now that you've seen it for yourself twice, you should understand what it truly is."

Kakashi's head lowered. "Indifferent. Hypocritical. Despicable. Ugly. Stubborn. Jealous. Corrupt…"

Chi Yu gave a dry chuckle. "A fine list. But enough of that. Let's talk about the Sharingan."

Kakashi's eyes flickered to him, suddenly alert.

"You can feel it, can't you? The chakra drain. That eye's not yours—so it's always active. It feeds on your energy constantly."

Kakashi nodded silently. The drain from the Sharingan was real—and increasing.

"With your talent, especially under my guidance, you don't need the Sharingan," Chi Yu said. "It's a crutch—and a costly one. My advice? Remove it."

Kakashi stiffened.

But Chi Yu sighed. "Of course, I know you won't. That eye was Obito's final gift. You won't part with it. So instead… I'll help you manage it."

Kakashi's shoulders eased slightly. "Thank you, Sensei."

Chi Yu smiled and ruffled his hair. "No need for thanks. You're my disciple, after all."

The boy's heart eased a little. That single touch lessened the hollow ache of loss.

Chi Yu's tone shifted serious once more. "The Sharingan grants you unparalleled visual prowess—observation, mimicry, even genjutsu. But since you can't deactivate it, even casual use accelerates chakra depletion."

He gestured to Kakashi's headband. "Cover it when not in use. Don't waste chakra observing shadows."

Kakashi nodded, pulling his hitai-ate down over the eye.

"But the real danger isn't the eye," Chi Yu added darkly. "It's the Uchiha Clan."

Kakashi looked up, cautious.

"You know how they are. They won't let a non-Uchiha keep a Sharingan—not willingly. Even if Obito gave it to you, they'll claim ownership. They'll pressure the Third Hokage, pull political strings, threaten consequences."

Chi Yu's tone grew cold. "So prepare yourself. They'll come for it."

Kakashi covered his eye with one hand, resolve sharpening. "Let them come. I'll never give up Obito's eye. It's part of him now. It's part of me."

Chi Yu's smile was vicious. "Good. If any of those Uchiha bastards try to touch you, I'll personally crush their pride. Let's see how hard their necks really are."

Gravesite of the Forgotten

Later that night, Chi Yu stood silently before a pile of collapsed stone—the presumed resting place of Uchiha Obito.

But he knew the truth.

Madara Uchiha's underground lair was close by. The boulder hadn't crushed Obito—it had freed him. By now, Madara had already rescued the boy, patched him with Hashirama's cells, and begun whispering poisoned dreams of the Eye of the Moon Plan into his ears.

Chi Yu narrowed his eyes.

Obito's true story was just beginning.

And while he regretted missing the unfolding tragedy… a part of him knew he might still intervene.

After all, Madara's time was nearly up.

And Chi Yu had never been one to stand by when fate went wrong.
