Hoshigaki Kisame
While Minato Namikaze was celebrating his wedding, a far darker scene was unfolding across the seas.
In the Hidden Mist Village, Uchiha Obito—Minato's former student—was executing a brutal purge. Having secretly placed the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura Karatachi, under his genjutsu, Obito directed Kirigakure's forces to systematically massacre the Bloodline Limit clans.
It was a swift, calculated campaign. Obito knew that to wipe out the clans, he had to strike quickly before they could unite in resistance. For days, the rivers of the Hidden Mist ran red, and a faint metallic scent of blood hung over the village like a curse.
But now, Obito chose to slow the pace. The element of surprise had been spent, and the surviving clans were on high alert. A full-scale continuation would be costly.
Still, amidst the chaos, Obito had found someone who intrigued him—a man who might prove valuable to the Akatsuki.
Under the cover of night, Kisame Hoshigaki silently cut down several guards before slipping into a restricted armory. At the back of the room, behind a set of heavy chains, lay a rack bearing the Seven Ninja Swords of the Mist—those without current wielders.
Ignoring the others, Kisame went straight to Samehada, the living blade once wielded by Suikazan Fuguki, who had recently fallen in battle. With a single motion, Kisame freed the sword and slung it across his back.
Just as he turned to leave, a voice came from the shadows.
> "You've done well, Kisame."
Kisame spun around, his hand tightening on Samehada's hilt.
Yagura Karatachi stepped into the moonlight.
> "I suspected you'd make your move during the purges. In accordance with our law of survival of the fittest, the blade is yours—and so is a place under my command."
Kisame smirked coldly.
> "Until the day you decide to have me eliminated as well, Mizukage-sama?"
Yagura's voice was calm.
> "You and I are alike. We've both dirtied our hands countless times in service to this village—killing comrades, betraying allies. Eventually, you learn that the world itself is nothing but a façade."
Kisame's eyes narrowed.
> "I learned that the moment I struck down my own team. If Kirigakure shinobi must kill Kirigakure shinobi, what does that make me—friend or foe? What's my purpose, my path, my peace? The only truth I've found is my own falsehood."
His gaze dropped to his hands, still stained in memory with the blood of those he once fought beside.
From behind Yagura, another voice spoke—one colder, deeper.
> "Then let me free you from that falsehood. I can give you a place where you belong."
Kisame's grip tightened.
> "Who are you?"
The figure stepped into view—Uchiha Obito, masked.
> "You've always fought to kill your comrades. From now on, you'll fight as my comrade."
Kisame frowned.
> "You seem to trust me a lot for someone I've never met."
Then he saw it—a single, crimson Sharingan glowing in the dark.
> "So it was you. All this time, I thought I was serving the Mizukage… but it was your genjutsu. Controlling the Fourth—controlling a Three-Tails Jinchūriki—that takes an ocular power I've only heard of in legends. Who are you, really?"
> "Uchiha… Madara."
Kisame's eyes widened in shock before narrowing again.
> "That man's been dead for decades. If you expect me to believe you, show me your true face."
> "Believe me or don't—it's your choice."
Obito removed his mask. To Kisame, the face that looked back was unmistakable—Madara Uchiha himself.
When Obito explained the Eye of the Moon Plan, Kisame first thought him insane.
> "You expect me to believe there can be a world without lies or suffering? Are you sane?"
> "That is my goal. A perfect world—no war, no pain. Only peace."
A slow, dangerous grin spread across Kisame's face.
> "Hmph… Then I want to see it for myself."
> "Welcome to the Akatsuki, Kisame."
From that night onward, Kisame became Obito's ally, and the purges of the Hidden Mist continued—now with another deadly hand at work.
