Chapter 248 - CHAPTER 248

Threatening Danzō

Hokage Building.

Danzō, ignored and dismissed by Chi Yu, had nowhere to vent his anger.

He had never expected Chi Yu to show him such blatant disrespect in front of both Minato Namikaze and Hiruzen Sarutobi. But in the end, Danzō could do nothing—he could only leave in humiliation.

When Chi Yu returned home, he saw Uzumaki Kushina clearing away her dishes. With a faint smile, he asked,

"Are you full? Do you want more to eat?"

Kushina shook her head. "No, I'm stuffed. Oh, right—how was the meeting?"

Chi Yu frowned slightly. "Pointless. I was just there to listen. My presence or absence wouldn't have changed a thing. Honestly, they have far too much time to waste."

Kushina laughed softly and tried to comfort him. "Alright, alright. Since you went anyway—what about Miyuki's situation? Has it been settled?"

Chi Yu nodded. "Yes. When she gives birth, it'll be outside the village under heavy guard. You don't need to worry. I've already placed a Tsukuyomi-based seal in her eyes—Myriad Rejection. And besides, I made a pact with the Nine-Tails back then. So long as I'm alive, Miyuki won't be in mortal danger."

Kushina blinked, surprised. "You… made a deal with the Nine-Tails? You can actually talk to it?"

"Of course," Chi Yu replied calmly. "Summons can communicate, so why can't a tailed beast? The problem is most of them despise humans. That makes communication… difficult, but not impossible."

Kushina let out a quiet breath. "Then I'm glad. As long as Miyuki is safe."

Chi Yu smiled faintly. "Don't worry. I'll handle it."

The Next Day

Chi Yu hadn't wanted to see Danzō. Truthfully, he wished he could spend every waking moment with Kushina. But he knew better.

Danzō clearly no longer trusted him. Leaving things unclear would only invite trouble later.

"Kushina," he said as he stood by the door, "I'll be back soon. Stay home, alright?"

Kushina, eyes fixed on the TV, waved him off. "Mm, I know. Go on."

Chi Yu left and headed for Root's underground base.

But unlike before, when he could walk in freely, he found masked Root operatives barring the entrance.

"Orders," one said flatly. "We must report to Lord Danzō before letting you in."

Chi Yu chuckled. So, he's already moving against me. How petty.

The guard finally returned and escorted him inside.

Danzō's Office

Danzō's expression was dark as Chi Yu entered.

"I'm very disappointed in you, Chi Yu," he said coldly. "While you were gone, the Konoha Defense Force's efficiency collapsed. And now that you've returned, you show me nothing but indolence and defiance. Are you betraying me?"

Chi Yu smirked. "Betrayal? Don't make me laugh. I'm still a Konoha shinobi. I've done more for this village than most of your Root ever have. But yesterday, when I tried to enter Root, your men barred me. Strictly speaking, Lord Danzō… it seems you were the one to betray me."

Danzō slammed the desk with his palm. "You dare defy your superior?!"

"My superior?" Chi Yu's Mangekyō Sharingan spun to life. At the same time, the faint markings of the Curse Seal of Root—once carved into his flesh to bind his will—faded before Danzō's eyes, erased.

"I'm no longer your subordinate. Not Root. Not your pawn. So tell me, Danzō… how could this possibly be 'defiance'?"

Danzō's eye narrowed, his killing intent flaring. The Curse Seal of Root was supposed to be unbreakable—yet Chi Yu had undone it.

"So. You came here today to challenge me?"

Chi Yu spread his hands. "Challenge you? No. I came to clarify things. If you maintain the balance, I won't move against you. After all, we agree on at least one thing—the Uchiha must be watched. But if you think you can discard me now… then stop pretending. We both know who's benefited more from our arrangement."

"You're mistaken," Danzō growled. "This is Konoha. My authority exceeds yours. No matter how strong you are, shinobi obey the chain of command."

Chi Yu tilted his head, unimpressed. "Authority, is it? Your strength isn't enough, so you'll hide behind politics? Try it, then. See if 'authority' protects you when steel and chakra decide everything."

His chakra surged. Scales crept across his arms, horns sprouted faintly from his forehead, and a green aura enveloped him—Sage Mode, Ryūchi Cave style.

At the same time, his Mangekyō Sharingan flared, its pupil narrowing into a vertical slit, radiating crushing intent.

Danzō instinctively rose from his seat, his body tensing for combat.

Chi Yu's voice was calm, almost playful.

"Remember this, Danzō. If you cross my bottom line, I won't hold back. And if I lose control… who knows how many will die? Do you think you'd survive that list?"

The threat lingered in the silence.

Then, with a mocking smile, Chi Yu let his aura fade, his Sharingan dimming.

Without another word, he turned his back on Danzō and walked out of Root.
