Chapter 7: The Beginning of Instruction

Hikigaya actually had the idea of teaching martial arts.

A martial artist starts by studying their own body, and teaching disciples means studying others' bodies.

In this world, where mysterious powers allow the strong to live long lives and maintain their physical functions, teaching disciples is not only about finding excellent successors but also regarded by martial arts experts as a form of cultivation.

Hikigaya had investigated the Cherry Academy where Komachi studied.

Whether it was because of a certain businessman's influence or not, the martial arts clubs at this school had developed very well.

Not only had they won numerous honors representing the school across Japan, but, to put it plainly, martial arts were very popular there, and both teachers and students had a high acceptance of martial arts.

This might have been the reason why his terrible excuse was somehow accepted at Komachi's school.

He later realized that there were quite a few people at this school who caused strange trouble in the name of martial arts—and none of them got expelled.

Obviously, in this world filled with gods, curses, and martial arts, some influences are unavoidable.

Even with formal compilation committees, they only had the power to intervene in gods and curses within limited scopes; martial arts were too broad and with too low a threshold to control.

This gave Hikigaya a lot of freedom to casually start his "martial arts teaching game."

In reality, this was mainly prepared for Komachi.

At home, due to a lack of authority, he couldn't teach Komachi martial arts, but as a teacher, it was different.

The sports facilities at Cherry Academy were planned as a district, and gradually the students around started to notice a scene appearing by the poolside.

A class full of boys and girls were performing some strange movements.

This school often had crazy people dueling on the playground, so students were numb to martial arts practice, but this scene seemed somewhat different, sparking quite a bit of interest.

Before long, a crowd had gathered outside the fence, much to the dismay of Hikigaya and the students practicing inside.

"We're being treated like monkeys!"

Some students involuntarily slowed their movements but were quickly caught by Hikigaya, who said, "Do it properly. What's with the slacking?"

"Teacher, someone's watching!" a student reported loudly.

"So what if they're watching?" Hikigaya sneered. "Don't think I didn't see you sneaking glances at the girls playing ball next door. Want to discuss with me how to capture a perfect shot when a skirt is lifted by the wind?"

A chorus of scolding came from the tennis girls next door, but Hikigaya noticed none of them actually looked angry—just various expressions.

What a bunch of shameless people… but…

Go ahead, watch. Just don't blame me if you get splashed later.

Of course, Hikigaya's main attention was on Komachi.

The movements they were practicing were the body-conditioning techniques from Kushinada Mikumo's "Kujitani-ryu Jujutsu," whose motto was "zero force, all technique."

Hikigaya never intended for Komachi to practice some "come at me and get hurt" style martial arts. Kujitani-ryu Jujutsu, which focused on technique and was good for health and beauty, was perfect.

Though the movements should have been practiced from a young age and Komachi was already past that stage, Hikigaya was who he was; such a problem was nothing to him.

What mattered was that Komachi would unknowingly master this jujutsu, turning martial arts into her instinct.

This was a higher-level approach and far more effective than a direct goal-driven method.

Finishing the set of movements would take at least half an hour, and since few of Komachi's classmates had trained in martial arts, some quickly became unable to continue.

The first to speak up was the girl who had earlier made a fake flirtatious wink.

"Teacher, I can't take it anymore! Let's just go swimming!"

Hikigaya thought silently, but looking around he saw most people already wearing expressions of "I'm done for," so he sighed.

"You really don't know how lucky you are. The moves I'm teaching you—many people outside would love to learn but can't."

More than not being able to learn them—they'd just get knocked out cold.

"Teacher, stop bragging! It's just warm-up exercises!" a panting boy said, though he wondered why these slow, gentle moves were so tiring.

"Yeah, isn't it the same as doing gymnastics?"

"I tried joining the karate club. Their moves are straightforward, not awkward at all."

Others chimed in.

Hikigaya wanted to laugh politely but found no humor, the level was just too low.

He decided it was time for him to show off a bit—just like a newbie who must be killed dozens of times in the wild before appreciating life.

"Alright, stop for now."

The moment he spoke, everyone collapsed to the ground, exhausted, making the crowd outside laugh loudly and tease them.

Ignoring the background noise of these unqualified bystanders, Hikigaya looked at the weaklings sprawled out and said:

"Guys who think these moves are useless, step out."

"Teacher, what now?"

"Teacher, let's take a break."

The boys complained, but on the surface only; Hikigaya clearly saw some sly eyes checking out the girls' bodies, admiring their youthful curves and relaxed postures.

Tsk tsk, I like it!

"Break? No freebies?" Hikigaya swept a look over those few "scoundrels," giving them a clear 'you're trash' look each time.

The effect was great.

Those guys stopped ogling and stood up.

Their physical fitness was obviously better than the rest; Hikigaya remembered one had said he tried to join the karate club but failed. That showed their baseline was better.

"Teacher, what's the benefit?" the rejected karate boy asked first.

"You said these moves were useless? Okay, you guys try to catch me. If you can catch me, I'll treat you to… um, the most expensive place here, with pretty older ladies."

"Whoa—!"

Everyone gasped.

You're seriously openly announcing you'll take students to a place for naughty fun!

After the gasp, all the boys—both inside the pool and outside the fence—had the same expression: "Teacher! It's you! Please let me call you teacher!"

As for the girls… their expressions were too complicated to interpret.

Still, those who stood up showed the classic 'scoundrel whining' act.

"Teacher… this isn't good, is it…" The rejected karate boy blushed and looked shy.

If not for his mouth grinning like a spider's lair and eyes bent like a rake, he might have looked convincing.

His expression was so scoundrel-like Hikigaya nearly kicked him into the pool.

"Stop dawdling, get up." Hikigaya waved impatiently.

Next moment, those boys had eyes like leopards and charged at him.

Hikigaya made a familiar yet incomprehensible motion and lightly touched their outstretched arms.
