Chapter 124 - A New Fragile Promise

Inside the infirmary, Aisha and Luna sat together. Aisha held Luna in an embrace until she stopped crying, gently caressing the back of her head.

Luna sat back in her chair, wiping her red, teary eyes and the snot from her nose.

"Now, is everything alright?" Aisha asked.

Luna gripped her dress on her lap and nodded slightly, her gaze fixed on the worn-down panels of the floor.

Aisha grinned from ear to ear, a blush overtaking her face as she kept her eyes on Luna. "Now, My Lady, I need to rest. Doctor Aux is gone somewhere, so the healing isn't nearly as good as his. The doctor wasn't able to heal me completely."

Luna looked up at Aisha as a final tear fell down her cheek. She wiped the tear away, slowly stood up, and walked towards Aisha. Looking up at her, she muttered, "My lady?" her blush was obvious on her face.

Luna extended her arms forward and hugged Aisha close to her heart. "I'm sorry. Nothing like that will happen to you anymore."

As Aisha held her head to Luna's chest, her mouth twitched as she added, "Thank you."

Luna stepped back and placed her hand on Aisha's head. Caressing her hair, she smiled and walked towards the doors. "Then, rest well. Tomorrow I'll be going on an adventure, so please see me off if you are able to. Even if you won't be there, I will know that you will see me off from the infirmary."

Aisha exhaled. "Oh no, I'll be there, definitely. How could I miss the departure of my best friend?"

Luna just smiled and said while walking out, "Get well soon," closing the doors after her.

As Luna turned the corner, the doors to her room stood at the end of the corridor on the left. She walked there, keeping her eyes on it, her head full of thoughts.

From now on, I should think before I say something. It really made things wrong. Theia, Aisha, I'm sorry. If only I was smarter, nothing like this would happen.

With that thought, Luna gripped her fists tightly and released them with a sigh.

What am I going to do with Theia? I need to explain to her why this was wrong and how wrong it was, but how should I begin…

Luna frowned, thinking.

Should I promise her that no matter what I say, that I love her and she is my family, and that nothing will change?

Luna stopped by the door and reached for the handle. Before she pushed it, she knocked twice, saying, "Theia?"

Luna waited for a while but heard no answer, so she decided to walk into the room, slowly peeking inside.

There, Theia slept on the bed, hugging the pillow. Seeing her there, Luna smiled. She walked up to her and sat beside her, caressing her hair.

"I'm sorry for being so stupid, and that I didn't realise that it meant so much to you. It was stupid of me to do it."

Just as Luna caressed Theia's hair, Niva, the frosty wolf-like spirit, flew with equal speed through the wall across the room. "I'm not coming back into your body anymore, I'm going on an adventure!" he declared, phasing through the window and flying towards the garden.

A deafening silence was left behind. Luna stared, mouth agape, at Niva getting further away.

Theia groaned as she turned in the bed and slowly opened her eyes. Luna jolted, turning to her.

"Luna?" Theia asked, rubbing her eyes.

"Yes?" Luna answered, caressing her hair.

Theia gripped Luna's arm and placed her hand on her cheek, constantly rubbing her face into it. Luna chuckled at the sight before saying, "Theia… I want to talk."

Theia looked at Luna and, seeing her serious expression, looked away and turned from her, her back to Luna. "I'm sorry," she said.

"Theia, please look at me. I'm not going to judge you, but I just want to talk and apologise for what I said."

Theia slowly turned her head, looking at her. Seeing Luna's deep frown, she felt sad and turned towards her, sitting on her knees as she waited for what Luna would say.

Luna sat in silence, looking at Theia and contemplating her words. After a long silence, Luna spoke. "Theia… The thing that I said, that you were not the most important person to me in the world…"

Even now, hearing those words, Theia frowned and gripped the duvet around her.

"I wasn't thinking before I said that… What I really meant was that I didn't know you enough, so I said it bluntly."

"I've known Aisha for my entire life… and that's why she was my important person."

"So… what I really wanted to say was that I didn't know you well enough. That's why I said that."

Hearing those words, Theia teared up, but held the tears in her eyes, patiently listening as her grip on the duvet slowly lessened.

"So, getting to the point, I want to get to know you more from now on… so that you'd become one of the most important people in the world to me."

"I believe that there can be multiple at the same time, but I can put you at the top if you want. So please, forgive me for it."

For Theia, those words were raw and simple, yet they touched her deeply. Her anger and jealousy turned into tears as they poured down her cheeks and dripped onto her hand.

Silently sobbing, she looked up at Luna. "I love it. I don't deserve it."

Luna's arms jerked as she slowly crawled to Theia, hugging her tightly. "No, it's my fault. I didn't think of you at all and hurt you deeply. This is… my mistake. I want to make it up to you."

"I'll do anything you want me to do, so please tell me now, and I'll do it."

Luna crawled back from Theia and looked straight at her, holding her shoulders. Theia's tears slowly poured as her eyes glimmered, thinking of what to ask. It didn't take her long as she immediately said, "Please stay with me forever and ever, never leave me."

Luna swallowed as she heard those words, a throbbing pain occurring in her chest. "O-kay," she said hesitantly, "I-I promise that I will never leave you." Luna extended her hand in a fist and stuck out her pinky. "So let's pinky promise. Will that do?" Luna said with a gentle smile on her face.

Theia looked at Luna's hand and, seeing it, bit down on her lower lip tightly as tears began uncontrollably pouring down her face. She hooked her pinky on Luna's and said, "Of course it will do," smiling from ear to ear.
