Chapter 180 - Chapter 180: The Permed Togepi

[Ninox Breeding House]

Professor Elm and the old headmaster of Ninox stared blankly at the scene before them.

As a professor who specialized in researching Pokémon eggs, before coming to Ninox, Professor Elm had brought a very well-developed Pokémon egg, intending it to be a prize for this exchange tournament.

But just last night, this egg was actually hatched by a Pancham.

And the Togepi that hatched was truly hard to describe.

Other Pokémon, upon hatching, would all adorably seek out their companions, or cuddle into a caretaker's arms to obediently drink milk.

But this guy's first action after birth was to find a Charmander and poke its butt with a bamboo stick...

Charmander furiously spat out an Ember, but Togepi not only didn't run away, it very cooperatively lowered its head.

A few minutes later, a permed Togepi appeared before Elm and the old headmaster.

"Professor Elm, I remember other Togepi being extremely cute, why is the one you brought so... so extraordinary?"

Professor Elm's face was almost red from holding it in.

"Accident, just an accident."

He didn't need to say it, he already knew. This egg must've been touched by his second assistant.

About a year ago, while he was out, he met a boy who really liked Pokémon, and by coincidence they had some interactions.

Later, that kid often came to his lab to help out and pick up some knowledge.

And then accidents started happening.

Any Pokémon egg that kid Gold touched, after hatching, would all have some sort of weird trait.

Some loved basketball, some loved singing and dancing, some loved rapping.

This one was even more outrageous, it got a perm.

And the way it poked Charmander was nearly identical to how Gold lined up his shots when playing pool.

Just totally absurd...

The only thing that gave Professor Elm a bit of comfort was that the Pokémon hatched by Gold were all unusually strong.

This Togepi, tanking Ember straight out of the shell, explained everything.

The old headmaster stared for a long time before finally shifting his gaze away from Togepi.

"So, are we still giving this Pokémon away?"

"No way!", Professor Elm jumped like a cat that just had its tail stepped on.

"Absolutely can't give it away. If we do, my reputation will be gone."

"Anyway, you already gave away a Gardevoir Mega Stone. For now, that's more than enough as the first prize."

The old headmaster habitually rubbed his chin, "If I recall, the Gardevoir Mega Stone was from our side of the reward pool."

"And Axel is our school's student, if you don't give him anything, wasn't his win pointless?"

Hearing the headmaster practically spell it out, Professor Elm patted his chest and promised, "I'll contribute too, but it'll take some time."

"I've got some secret research projects going on. Give me at most a month, and I'll send Axel a very special pet egg."

The old headmaster grinned, "Deal!"

———

"Woo~Ahn!"

Pelipper flew over Ninox University and steadily hovered above the research lab.

After carefully confirming the address, Pelipper nodded with satisfaction.

'Ah, Ninox's the best!'

'So many students, easy to deliver to, and most importantly, safe.'

But just as this thought passed, a loud dragon roar suddenly came from below.

Pelipper immediately shivered all over.

'Oh crap, why is there a Gyarados roar down there?'

'Isn't this research lab supposed to be filled with slow-moving or very dull Pokémon?'

'Suddenly this doesn't feel too safe...'

But it was still okay. As a fellow Water + Flying-type Pokémon, Pelipper wasn't that afraid of Gyarados.

After all, most Gyarados were only around level 20, and the places they lived usually had lots of them.

He was used to the sound. Nothing to fear.

Pelipper carefully adjusted the parcel in his mouth and slowly descended a few meters.

Another dragon roar echoed.

This time, though quieter, it carried a kind of... comfort?

Emotionally, it sounded like a kitten being petted just right by its owner.

But Pelipper felt this roar was far scarier than the previous one from Gyarados.

Just hearing it once made his soul tremble in fear.

Pelipper didn't care whether the item in his mouth would get bumped or tilted, he slowly lowered his head to look at the ground.

He wanted to see just what kind of Pokémon was down there.

The next moment, Pelipper was utterly dumbfounded.

In his entire life, he had never seen such a massive Gyarados.

Ordinary Gyarados were only around 7 meters tall; even the boss leaders of their species didn't exceed 10 meters.

But this one was at least 30 meters tall.

And next to it lay a similarly massive dragon-type Pokémon.

That Pokémon was nothing like anything Pelipper had ever seen before, its entire body was made of bones and unknown energy, with a pair of crimson eyes that looked like they wanted to devour everything.

Pelipper suddenly had the feeling... he'd become a delivery bird delivering himself...

'Oh crap, these two big guys aren't gonna eat me, right?'

'Damn it, this kind of delivery should've been assigned to Farfetch'd!'

Pelipper hesitated for less than a second and immediately made a bold decision—

'Retreat!'

'No amount of performance pay is worth more than my life!'

But just then, a soft spatial ripple emerged in front of him.

A white, mysterious Pokémon holding a tablet appeared, calmly looking at Pelipper.

["Since you're already here, just leave the package before you go."]

["If you've got some time, you can even stay to watch an episode of anime."]

Pelipper: ∑(っ°Д°;)っ

'Holy crap—it's real. They really do eat Pokémon!'

Pelipper had heard long ago that in the Galar region, people who raised livestock would make them watch anime and listen to music.

They said animals raised this way had tastier meat.

Now they were making him watch anime, weren't they gonna eat him?

At this thought, a red glow instantly enveloped Pelipper as he used Agility.

Mewtwo looked at Pelipper in confusion.

'What's up with modern Pokémon, do they all love battles now?'

'I just invited you to watch anime, and you use a buff move first?'

'Confirmed—you wanna fight me.'

'Since that's the case, you're clearly the kind of Pokémon that needs anime to calm down.'

With that, Mewtwo waved a giant hand, and a vast surge of psychic energy swept out, instantly covering Pelipper's body.

"Today, you must watch five hours of anime before leaving!"

———

A few minutes later, after Axel delivered a lecture, Mewtwo looked pitifully at Pelipper, who was being released by his trainer, drooping its head low.

Axel sighed helplessly, "Mewtwo... you can't force people to watch anime every time you meet someone. They have busy jobs."

"And Gardevoir already asked, he used Agility because he wanted to run, not to attack you."

Mewtwo's look of grievance instantly vanished, replaced with burning determination.

'He wasn't trying to fight me, he was scared by Gyarados and the others?'

'So at the root of it all, it's because this world isn't peaceful enough.'

'Once I become stronger, I'll make sure all Pokémon in the world watch anime every day.'

'And after every battle, they must say thank you.'

'Changing the world starts with me, Mewtwo Jr.!'
