Chapter 10 - 2.4 - Little Strokes Fell An Oak

"Indeed it is. Seeing that we are given this privilege is almost terrifying."

I replied, not wanting to miss any opportunity for striking up a conversation.

Sum of points that equal 100,000 yen are troublesome, especially for these spoiled students who hold such a tendency to be quite reckless when it comes to their expenditure.

"That concludes the overview of the points allocated for each month. Do you have any further questions? If not, I will proceed to the next item on the agenda."

Those students then, who seemed to be a bit enthusiastic earlier, sat in silence.

"As previously declared by the Student Council President, any external contact with students is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, communication via apps. Any such communication will result in the immediate confiscation of the device in question and a delay in the student's allowance for points."

Now that was intriguing. Just when I and my neighbour had thought that this school was not particularly strict, it suddenly became consistent with their initial lack of leniency.

"Chabashira -san, what about games? Are those allowed?"

I was somewhat taken aback by the sudden question that came from a desk across mine.

The name tag on his desk identified him as "Ike."

"Yes, games are allowed. But bear in mind not to use any questionable online feature."

With such a response, he gave a little fist pump, as if to celebrate this small victory.

"Alright, is there any question? If not, I will proceed to the next agenda."

"Now, check your phone. If you notice an app with ANHS logo on it, please click on it immediately."

I then clicked on the aforementioned app, without noticing if others did the same thing.

"This is the school's latest system update, the S-System School Network, abreviated as SSS Network. If you happen to wonder about how to be the S-rank student, it is only obtainable here."

I then checked these features to familiarize myself with the app.

To put it simply, the application functions in a manner similar to that of a social media platform, offering a range of features, including the ability to post publicly, which allows the sharing of images, videos, and files such as documents. Furthermore, the app offers a chat function for communication with other users, provided that they have been assigned the default username based on their ID card number. Usernames can be modified at any time, with the limitation of one change every three days.

Additionally, the school has implemented a support system for reporting any inappropriate conduct by students, provided that there is sufficient evidence to substantiate the claim.

By far, it has been the most unexpected one I have ever seen, considering it wouldn't be probable to create such an app unless with the help of programmers to ensure its stability.

However, I feared this might also increase any potential harm or risk to do something devious. Transparency would appear to be a double-edged sword, with one side is a bit steeper than another. In other words, it has its advantage but also disadvantage. The pros are being the ease of access, the ability to keep yourself up-to-date with any news, regardless your whereabout.

Hence then, it also comes up with its shortcomings too. Transparency also equals the lack of privacy, with thereof means it can be breached easily by others, or the one I would coin it as 'selective privacy' whereas your privacy shouldn't matter to anyone once you share it. Overall, slowly but sure, it's an act of deliberately giving away your personal boundary without any form of politeness unlike in real life.

"Alright that's all. If no one has question, I will leave the class. We will meet again tomorrow."

The bell rang as a signal to end the class meeting for the break period, as she walked into the door, carrying the brief material she held earlier, probably for the speech.

As soon as she left the scene, students were bewitched by their own class points, thus possibly considering thousand of ways to emptying their 'pocket' for the sake of their own satisfaction.

Meanwhile, me and my neighbour had been contemplating on what was said earlier, from the class points to the social media system, it was both unexpected and terrifying at the same time.

"Do you think you will be eligible for the S-Rank?"I asked her, not sure on how to begin the conversation properly without talking about the matter at hand.

"It's not really your problem." She refrained from continuing this topic, proceeding to leave along with many others, probably going for some foods to eat or something like that.

I asked her because it appeared to have caught her attention when "S-Rank" was mentioned. I was hardly sure whether she had understood what it really meant, whether there was any viable explanation at all on that regard, or if it has anything to do with the school.

At any rate, I would have supposed that some things are better left unknown.

Meanwhile, after that homeroom teacher had left along with her introduction that somewhat still lingered in my mind, these classmates remain exuberant, or I could have said it's euphoric.

They appeared to be living in the seventh sky, dwelling and furthermore engaging with their hedonistic pleasure. But to be fair, if I were to put it simply, it's just them using these points for their own sake. They are divided into several groups, one of them consists of four male students, sitting, and talking about topics they shared interest to. One of them boasted about what looked to be a gadget for gaming, of which screen displayed a slender pink-haired female character standing with must I say quite a revealing suit as if these clothes were meant for nothing

I then shifted my view on a couple of female students, apparently chatting about stuff at school. One of them was jumping, some were excited, while there was a yellow-haired one who bragged on her new nails inside a case. Such a sight was quite terrifying to me, considering I didn't know you could buy someone's nails whilst displaying them in front of others as if you already murdered someone.

Eventually, I took a glance to the whole classroom. It's quite hollow and cozy until-

"Hello, everyone. Can you guys listen to me for a bit?"

Such a calm, mellifluent, and somewhat friendly tone was heard when he voiced his thought for the first time. It was a male student with an attractive look and the air of a young man, possibly wanted to share his aspiration on a certain topic.

His hair is undyed, and seemed to be a diligent honor student.
