Chapter 83 - The Direct Confrontation

Their concern was so genuine, it was as if the injury belonged to their own father, an expression of deep care painted across their faces.

Zhuang Ruo, standing beside him, echoed his concern.

"Brother Mo, my brother is the director of a hospital. Shall I have him come over to check on you?"

The two were clearly afraid something grave had happened to Mo Lin.

"A mere scratch, don't overthink it," Mo Lin remarked, slightly exasperated.

Their excessive worry made his scalp tingle.

"Wounded?" Zhuang Ruo suddenly seemed more alarmed. "This will not do!"

"Brother Mo, let me take you to my brother's hospital. I'll have him personally examine you."

Fu Wansan, standing nearby, his gaze darkened, now showed a trace of panic. "What kind of ghost did you encounter yesterday to be hurt like this?"

"It's nothing," Mo Lin responded, dismissing their concerns.

If one were to pinpoint the cause of his injuries, it would be his own fault. The Ghost Mother had used her power yesterday, making him vomit blood and suffer some harm. Fortunately, she had relented in time, and the injury was not severe.

"Do you need to go to the hospital for a check-up?" Fu Wansan asked, his voice filled with concern.

"No need, it's nothing serious." Mo Lin was well aware of his own condition. Overexertion had led to his blood loss.

"Good, as long as you're fine," Fu Wansan sighed in relief. "I heard your house was burned down?"

Mo Lin raised an eyebrow, his suspicions confirmed—Fu Wansan's sources were alarmingly efficient. Word of his house being burned had reached him by the next day.

"Yeah," Mo Lin replied curtly.

"I've arranged a new villa for you," Fu Wansan continued, handing him the keys. "It's in the same neighborhood where I live."

Zhuang Ruo chimed in, "I live there too, in the same area."

"A luxury estate, worth over thirty million."

"I understand, I'll move in a few days," Mo Lin said calmly.

"Brother Mo, why not move in now?" Fu Wansan urged.

"Yeah, why wait? Move in today," Zhuang Ruo added.

"Is it that urgent?" Mo Lin asked, his face puzzled. There was something about their eagerness that felt off, as if they had an ulterior motive.

"The Li family has arrived. We're afraid of retaliation," Fu Wansan blurted out, revealing their true concern.

They were rushing him to move because if any trouble arose, at least Mo Lin would be close enough to help.

"Alright, I understand," Mo Lin agreed, now feeling the strain of his weakened body. He certainly didn't want to face the Li family at this moment. Without any place to stay, he reluctantly agreed to move into the new neighborhood with Fu Wansan and Zhuang Ruo.

True to its reputation as a rich district, the villa was lavishly decorated. It was much larger than the place Mo Lin had lived in before, with all the amenities one could ask for. Fu Wansan's villa was just across the street, less than two hundred meters away.

"Knock knock knock..." Fu Wansan hurriedly knocked on Mo Lin's door in slippers.

"Brother Mo, come to my house quickly," Fu Wansan called, his voice anxious.

Mo Lin, unhurried as ever, stepped out and saw Fu Wansan's panic. "What's going on?" he asked.

"The Li family sent people. They're in my house now," Fu Wansan said, his breath quickening. His fear was palpable.

Mo Lin understood immediately—Fu Wansan feared the Li family might resort to violence at any moment.

"Got it. I'll take a look." Mo Lin followed Fu Wansan to his house.

Two young men in black uniforms stood in the yard, their expressions unreadable.

Inside, a woman sat cross-legged, a smile playing on her lips as she spoke with Zhuang Ruo.

Beside her stood a man with tattoos on his arm.

"That's Miss Li Yue Mei, the third daughter of the Li family," Fu Wansan whispered to Mo Lin.

Li Yue Mei wore a white suit, her hair styled elegantly atop her head. She exuded an air of grace.

"Fu Wansan, why did you bring someone here? Didn't I tell you not to?" Li Yue Mei said, her tone frosty as she glared at him.

"I just came to ask a few questions. I'm not killing anyone. What are you so afraid of?" Fu Wansan laughed nervously.

"This person is my friend," he quickly added.

Li Yue Mei's eyes narrowed as she shifted the conversation. "I just want to ask, who is responsible for Li San's death?"

The room fell silent.

No one answered.

Li Yue Mei pulled out a photo from her bag. The woman in the photo had her arms bound and was covered in lash marks. Blood stained her clothes, and her face was pale and gaunt. Though it was just a photograph, the woman's suffering was evident.

Mo Lin's pupils constricted in shock. He recognized her, and all too well.

That woman was Hong Yanxun.

Li Yue Mei, seeing Mo Lin's reaction, smiled coldly. "I see you know her."

"Did you have anything to do with Li San's death?"

The atmosphere turned heavy, and even Fu Wansan dared not speak.

"No, I wasn't involved," Mo Lin responded slowly, but his words didn't seem to reassure anyone.

Hearing this, Fu Wansan let out a quiet sigh of relief. At least Mo Lin hadn't chosen to go against the Li family directly.

But then, Mo Lin spoke again, his voice direct and chilling.

"I was the one who killed Li San."

The words were blunt and without hesitation.

The truth behind Li San's death was simple. He had tried to kill Mo Lin first.

Everyone in the room was stunned. No one expected Mo Lin to admit to the murder so calmly and openly.

Even Li Yue Mei seemed taken aback.

"Now it's my turn to ask you," Mo Lin continued, his voice laced with an edge. "Where is Hong Yanxun? Who captured her?"

"And who did this to her?" His gaze burned with murderous intent.

He knew full well that these people hadn't spared Hong Yanxun out of kindness. She was only alive because she was of use to them.

"This woman is tough," Li Yue Mei remarked, almost admiringly, "She didn't spill a word about you, even after being beaten like this."

"Where is she? Who did this to her?" Mo Lin's voice grew harder, the pressure mounting.

As his words echoed through the room, several ghostly figures suddenly appeared.

Li Yue Mei's body stiffened, and her breath caught in her throat. She felt an eerie presence behind her, and slowly turned to face it.

A ghostly woman stood behind her, eyes glowing with murderous intent, staring her down.

At that moment, Li Yue Mei felt as though her breath was being suffocated.

Instinctively, she wanted to shout for her bodyguards, but when she looked to them, she saw that they were all held captive by the ghosts.

Her bodyguards, all third-level ghost tamers, were among the best in the region, yet they were powerless before the ghosts.

"Nightmare-level ghosts," Li Yue Mei muttered, her face pale.

Fu Wansan, standing silently by, knew all too well that Mo Lin wasn't someone who would hesitate to act when provoked.

"Don't get agitated... please, don't get agitated..." Li Yue Mei said hastily, trying to calm Mo Lin's rising fury.
