Eve's POV
I had just stepped outside, my mind buzzing with the upcoming day, when I was rudely interrupted by yet another damn vampire. I swear, the universe has a twisted sense of humor. One Lucius wasn't enough, and now I'm stuck dealing with the playboy deputy, who I've barely had the chance to dodge.
"Hey there, gorgeous," a voice whispers in my ear, sending a chill down my spine. The worst part? I didn't even hear him coming. One minute, I'm walking in the cool morning air, the next—there he is, smooth as silk, right behind me.
I stiffen, forcing myself to stay calm. "Morning to you, Marcus, but I'm already late. Can't entertain you," I say, trying to sound as dismissive as possible, walking faster in an attempt to put some distance between us.
But, of course, that doesn't work. The damn vampire follows me like he's got nothing better to do. "You do know I'm the Deputy, don't you?" he says, his voice oozing charm.
