If I had known that today would be the day I had to face my childhood trauma walking, I would have stayed at home, curled up with my cat, and watched something mindless like GeoWorld or Tom and Jerry. But no, instead, I was dressed in my best professional outfit—nothing too revealing, nothing too familiar—just enough to blend in as Rose Hawthorn, the mild-mannered, new teacher, trying to pass under the radar. I had to. The last thing I needed was someone—Drake, Marcus, or anyone—seeing through the carefully constructed illusion I had worked so hard to maintain since I stepped onto these cursed school grounds.

And God, how I dreaded it.

Parade day, with its endless eyes from all kinds of students—wolves, witches, wizards, vampires—made it impossible to hide. It was like the whole damn school was waiting to see some kind of spectacle, and I wasn't about to give them one.
