And let's not forget the deal they made. That still sat uneasily with me. Evie's assurances couldn't shake the feeling in my gut. I didn't trust Lucius, not even for a second, and I couldn't shake the idea that there was something more to that deal than she was letting on. But I had to keep that suspicion to myself—for now.
Because, if I'm being honest, I could see what was happening here. And it wasn't going to end well for either of them if they ever gave in to whatever this... bond was.
Lucius might be her mate, but there was no way they could be together. The consequences of that would be far too dangerous. For her. For him. For everyone. Their relationship was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
It was my responsibility to keep them apart—no matter what.
