Lady Cassandra and young Master Caruso, those from the Peacock Harpy's Royaly, had been the next pair out of the dining room, once the drunken Lord Fielder had left, – being supported by the young tawny he was supposed to be chaperoning.
Now and again, small bubbles of giggles and chuckles would surface, from their lungs to their lips.
Usually, Master Caruso did not get on well with his mother. Especially surrounding the topic of wanting a mate who was not a peacock. He thought beige was boring and refused to marry a woman who… was just plainly and blatantly boring.
Initially, Lady Cassandra had taken no issue with this. It was well known, and widely accepted among all of the harpy Clan's, that peacock males had a vanity like no other. Requiring absolute beauty within their mates.
It was because of precisely this, that the Peacock Queen had not initially taken issue, where she very much should have.
Even while presenting the most beautiful female peacock in the Clan, with the most extreme graduates of deep browns to light beiges – young Master Caruso had made her weep heavily from his criticism of her looks. Especially young female peacocks, took the male peacocks opinions with great weight and especially that Caruso was a royal… that carried its own additional seal to it.
It was shortly after that, where Master Caruso had heard that, at a family dinner, where after one of his sisters had asked their own father about political affairs between the clans, that the Raven Queen would be accepting suitors over the space of a week. All of those who were interested and eligible to woo her two twin daughters would be welcome at the castle.
"Mother. Father…I want to go." He had said without wavering.
His sister, that had asked about the political affairs between Clan's had scoffed at his notion of ever winning one of the Raven twins.
Thanks to her, the King and Queen of the Peacocks, initially, felt like they may not have to explain to him why it was extremely unlike that he would ever succeed in that endeavour. However, they also did not have to explain what the political position was, that it would be putting the entire Peacock Harpy Clan in.
The Raven Queen… her temperament and scheming ways were well known. Caruso's older brother – the one who would be marrying and mated with a flamingo had spoken up to his younger brother about this. Warning him not to get involved with her and that for the betterment of the Peacocks, it was smarter to stay under her radar and out of her way.
Attempting to present ones self as a suitor for her daughters… that would not be flying under her radar but presenting ones self as a nicely cooked meal, all ready to ravage and rip apart.
The Peacock King had sent words to both the Hummingbird Harpy and the Parrot Harpy, that his youngest son was seeking a mate who had any colour – but brown or beige.
Both of these Clans had reponsed… but given the remoteness of their location and the difficulty in locating them that, even the peacocks with established trade routes, had in doing so the responses never got back to the Peacock King, before young Master Caruso had set off with Queen Lady Cassandra to the Raven Kingdom.
Of course the King had yelled and scolded under his breath, but now there was nothing more that he could do. Only hope that the Raven Twins both took a disliking to him, or that Caruso would find them also distasteful being only black in colour.
To the Peacock King, he could not fathom how his son would prefer to get rid of gradient shades, in exchange for a pitch black mate… it made no sense in vanity, other than that he would have scored a large prize politically. Nothing more.
Back at the Raven Kingdom, Lady Cassandra playfully chastised her son, "You really ought to be more careful about whom and when you speak Caruso. You will land yourself in some serious trouble that neither I, nor your father, will be able to assist you and get you out from." Her dull features and monotoned brown hair, eyes and beige creased and wrinkled skin lightened somewhat with her tone. However, the creases around her forehead deepened as she re-emphasized this.
Even Lady Cassandra did not want to annoy the Raven Queen, or get in her way. Just by showing up, they had already made a statement… and two other Owl Harpy Clan's had been present.
This young Peacock Prince had made himself clearly known and Lady Cassandra was certain of this. What was uncertain, was in what way it would impact the Peacock Harpy and this was the element she did have control over and could still manipulate to the betterment. Her socialite manoeuvring would only work if her son shut up and got rejected by the Raven twins.
Lady Cassandra considered all her options in the large and spacious bedroom that they had been assigned. It had both an upstairs and down stairs so young Caruso had the lower floor to himself and she had the upper.
She decided to go for a beauty nap to help her thinking and planning, for those essential courtly affairs. Later on before dinner, she would freshen herself up and go for a stroll…
There is no garden at the Raven Kingdom's palace… and Lady Cassandra longed for her Valley. Where after a lovely evening meal or under a star dazzled sky, that she could go for a delightful and refreshing evening stroll. She could not imagine having lived here her whole life and for a moment a pang of empathy hit her for the Raven twins – what release or escape did they have in this castle…. In this Kingdom? With no beauty around them?
Lady Cassandra had meant it earlier, where she offered Princess Seraphina to be introduced to the Parrot and Hummingbird Harpy Clans and she had really meant that with no catch and no caveat.
Seraphina was going to be the next Raven Queen, with or without her Caruso as her mate; it would serve the princess well to make acquaintances and allies with Clans that her mother had not scored or insulted.
Tucking herself in to her large four pillar bed post, lined with black and grey hoister at the top and around the sides, Lady Cassandra went for her evening nap.
Once she was out for the count, Master Caruso finally took his chance. The one which he had been waiting for.
He snuck out of the room and went in search of one of those household raven servants. Lady Nox, the Raven Queen had said that they were there to fill all of their guests desires… right? He thought with a smug and sleezy smile as he left the bedroom to begin searching for any of them.
