Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 28

c28: King Kai's Help

The Universe spaceship cruised silently through the vast darkness of space.

Inside the ship's advanced training room, the gravity display showed "150x Earth gravity." The air had thickened to a deep crimson hue from the extreme pressure. Around Li Xu, automated projectile launchers continuously fired energy spheres. With precise movements honed by relentless practice, Li Xu weaved between the blasts none of them came close to landing.

Unlike Goku, who rapidly escalated gravity to 100x during his journey to Namek in the original manga, Li Xu followed a gradual method. He only increased the gravity multiplier once his body had fully adapted. His steady approach allowed him to master both movement and stamina under stress. He wasn't in a rush—he had time, and long-term gains mattered more than shortcuts.

"Beep!"

The emitters stopped firing, signaling that the energy cells had been depleted. Li Xu deactivated the gravity chamber and stepped out, towel in hand.

"Li Xu!"

A sudden voice echoed not through the ship but directly into his mind.

"Li Xu, this is King Kai!"

Startled but alert, Li Xu straightened. Only King Kai his mentor from the Other World used this method of communication.

"Lord Kaiō! What's going on?" Li Xu replied telepathically. King Kai had already taught him powerful techniques like the Kaio-ken and the Spirit Bomb, and Li Xu held deep respect for him.

"Li Xu, I need your help. There's a dangerous situation on the planet Kanaro, near your current coordinates. A powerful Saiyan named Turles has begun draining the planet's life."

"Turles?"

Li Xu frowned. He remembered Turles from King Kai's stories a rogue Saiyan who resembled Goku, but followed a twisted path.

"Yes," King Kai continued. "He's planted the Tree of Might also known as the Shinseiju—on Kanaro. Once rooted, it absorbs all planetary energy. The soil will dry up, water sources will vanish, and nothing will grow for centuries. The fruits it bears drastically increase power... but at a devastating cost."

"Understood. I'll head there immediately," Li Xu said without hesitation.

"Thank you. The people of many future worlds may owe you their lives."

King Kai's voice faded, his gratitude clear.

Li Xu walked into the lounge, where Bulma was sitting comfortably, reading a science journal she had bought on Planet Fidar, her reading glasses perched slightly on her nose.

"Done with training already?" Bulma looked up in surprise.

"Something urgent came up. We need to divert to Planet Kanaro there's an enemy I've been asked to deal with," Li Xu explained.

"Got it. I'll recalculate the navigation right away," Bulma said without hesitation, setting down her tablet and heading for the control room.

---

Planet Kanaro was an oceanic world about 70% covered by water. What land it had was thick with lush green forests, fertile plains, and vibrant wildlife. It had no advanced civilizations yet, its native life still in the early wild stages of evolution.

But all that changed when Turles and his squad landed on Kanaro just one day earlier. There, they planted the Tree of Might, and its roots had quickly begun to consume the planet's very life essence. Forests blackened, rivers dried up, and animals dropped dead from the sudden ecological collapse.

"Lord Turles," said Daizu, checking his scanner, "in a few more hours, the fruit will be ripe. Our power will soar again."

"With the Tree of Might, even Frieza won't be a problem," added Amond, another loyal soldier.

"Don't get ahead of yourselves," Turles said coldly. "This planet's energy is weaker than expected. The fruit won't be as potent. It's difficult to find worlds with enough life force to grow a perfect Shinseiju fruit."

It was true even with Frieza's empire spanning hundreds of worlds, planets with the precise life-energy balance needed were incredibly rare. If they were more common, Turles wouldn't still be so far beneath Frieza's level.

---

Elsewhere on Kanaro, Li Xu's Universe ship touched down in a desolate, lifeless region of the planet, deliberately distant from the tree's core to avoid detection.

He and Bulma disembarked together.

What met their eyes was shocking: the landscape was bone-dry, and twisted roots from the Tree of Might coiled across the land like massive serpents. Towering above the forest canopy, the visible trunk of the tree looked like an ancient wooden dragon rising from the ground its bark pulsing ominously.

"What a monster of a tree…"

Bulma's jaw dropped. Li Xu had described it, but seeing it with her own eyes was something else entirely.

"We've got some time before the fruit ripens," Li Xu said, analyzing the tree's energy signature with his Ki.

"Let's handle Turles before things get out of hand."

"Right!"

Bulma compacted the spaceship into capsule form and clipped it onto Li Xu's armor, just beside the emblem King Kai had gifted him.

Li Xu restrained the fury boiling inside him and soared toward Turles' group. His greatest concern wasn't their numbers but that Turles, under pressure, might consume the Fruit of the Tree of Might prematurely.

Earlier, Li Xu had gauged Turles' power level at only 18,000, significantly lower than in the original Dragon Ball Z movie, where Turles had already eaten the fruit. As long as he stopped Turles from consuming it, the fight should be manageable.

As he neared the massive Shinseiju, Li Xu reduced altitude, ceased flying, and moved in on foot to avoid detection. He stealthily approached the perimeter of the Spirit Tree.

"So this is the Fruit of the Tree of Might?"

Li Xu observed the seemingly unimpressive fruit nestled among the gnarled branches. It looked nothing like a weapon capable of amplifying power many times over.

"We'll deal with them first, then destroy the fruit."

Li Xu narrowed his eyes at the group ahead. Turles and his squad numbered six Daizu, Amond, Rasin, Lakasei, Cacao, and Turles himself.

"Beep!"

Suddenly, the scouters on the warriors' ears lit up and emitted warning tones. A spike in battle power had been detected, but it was already too late Li Xu had unleashed a barrage of eleven charged energy blasts.

"Scatter!"

Alarmed, the soldiers scattered, but the explosive storm hit their position head-on.

Boom!

The impact kicked up a storm of fire and dust, engulfing the base of the Spirit Tree in a blazing inferno. Li Xu didn't worry about damaging the tree—after all, in the original timeline, even a full-power Kamehameha from Goku couldn't destroy it. The Shinseiju was extraordinarily resilient.

As the smoke cleared, a lone figure remained standing amidst the charred earth: Turles, bruised and bloodied but still conscious.

"Goku?!"

Bulma's eyes widened when she saw Turles. The resemblance to Son Goku was uncanny almost like an older twin.

"That's not Goku. That's Turles he's a low-class Saiyan, just like Goku, but they're not related," Li Xu explained.

"Then why do they look so alike? Could he be Goku's father or something?" Bulma asked, puzzled.

"No. Goku's father, Bardock, perished with Planet Vegeta when Frieza destroyed it. Turles just happens to share the same Saiyan facial traits. Among lower-class warriors, similar appearances aren't rare. We're practically clones to the Saiyan elites."

"Ah, I see," Bulma replied, no longer dwelling on it.

"Who are you?!"

Turles staggered forward, fury in his eyes. His scouter had been destroyed, and the sneak attack had cost him dearly.

"You don't need to know who I am," Li Xu said coolly. "Just know that today marks your death anniversary for every year to come."

Without another word, Li Xu vanished from Turles' view, reappearing in an instant right before him. He slammed his knee into Turles' abdomen with brutal precision. The impact folded Turles like a broken blade of grass, and he keeled over in pain, gasping.
