Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Irretrievable Situation

It must be said that these Astrologers have something to offer. After exhausting the royal Astronomical Society's years of accumulated resources, and borrowing the Philosopher's Stone from Perfikot, they at least figured out that this world-encompassing cold wave was triggered by something.

But clearly, neither Perfikot nor the royal Astronomical Society has the ability to stop any of this.

Moreover, according to Perfikot's calculations, even if they could stop the source of the climate anomaly, the already-begun climate change would still plunge this world back into the Ice Age.

This process is irreversible because the weather itself is a vast system where a slight change can affect the whole. Now, the entire meteorological system is being altered, and reversing it all is too late.

What they can do now is find a way to survive in the face of this terrifying global disaster, and then figure out a way to stop the source of this climate anomaly to prevent the world from being completely frozen in three hundred years.

As for Perfikot, although she wants to stop this disaster, human strength has its limits.

Even with the Philosopher's Stone that can break the principle of equivalent exchange, the timeless knowledge and insights possessed by a Transmigrator, and her powerful cheat ability, she cannot change the fate of the whole world.

Unless she can leverage the entire Empire and have all its resources at her disposal, perhaps there's a chance to save this world.

But as just a Baron's granddaughter, even with a series of titles like Langton's genius girl, the youngest alchemy master, and the youngest member of the Royal Engineering Association, in an era where women's status is still belittled, she simply couldn't lead such significant matters.

All this must be entrusted to a mature, steady, reliable, and highly respected man.

In this era, women's status has just begun to improve, from being confined at home to gradually stepping into society as employed laborers.

Yet the overall social atmosphere still remains full of disdain and prejudice towards women, believing that women should stay at home doing household chores rather than appearing in public.

Although during this period women began receiving more education, gaining financial independence, and participating in society and politics as independent individuals rather than male appendages, the overall social atmosphere still viewed women as inferior to men, existing merely as male appendages.

Perfikot, despite her achievements that most people could not attain, could not change the fact of women's low social status in this era.

Even if she had the ability to save this world, she couldn't lead it all but could only serve as an appendage to the male leader.

She has attempted to warn the authorities about the imminent disaster, but it's dismissed as a little girl's whimsy, and some even mock her saying "what does a woman know," even though Perfikot has achieved far more than most men.

Eventually, she gave up warning the authorities and just tossed the matter to the already collapsed Astrologers.

As for herself, she returned to the Brandlis Clan's estate outside of Langton, preparing for the disaster in her own way.

She doesn't wish to resist the advent of this disaster, nor does she expect to solve the source of the disaster; she only hopes to survive when the disaster comes and live a bit better.

After all, that's about all she can do right now.

As for saving more people from this disaster? Whoever's up for it can do it! Didn't they say, "what do women know"? Then let those men who know something do their part!

Perfikot is just a young girl now, and being able to ensure her survival in this disaster is difficult enough.

If she weren't a Transmigrator with a powerful cheat ability, she wouldn't even dare have such expectations.

Speaking of her cheat ability, Perfikot came to a mirror hanging on the wall, lifting her gaze to look at herself in the mirror.

Don't get the wrong idea; this isn't a talking magic mirror, and Perfikot's cheat ability isn't this. It's her eyes.

The Perfikot in the mirror has silver hair and stunning beauty, even as a yet-to-bloom girl, her beauty is, just like her name implies, perfect.

This is also the most heartfelt expectation and the most beautiful blessing from her parents for her.

Only, on this stunning face, a pair of heterochromatic eyes seem to break this perfection, yet they also add a unique charm to her beauty.

Those are eyes of crimson and emerald green; the crimson one resulted from the ritual performed during her transmigration to create the Philosopher's Stone. Perfikot's original eyes were amber, as shown in her pocket watch's photo, identical to her parents'.

The emerald green eye is a powerful alchemical creation - the Jade Record: Eye of Omniscience.

This was the cheat ability that Perfikot brought during her transmigration. It was with this eye that she managed to turn the chaos of a berserk Philosopher's Stone—which had killed her parents—back on track and complete the creation of possibly the highest alchemical achievement.

Yet, this is just one of the most basic functions of this eye. She has spent three years to gradually start exploring its other functionalities.

Gently touching the eye, Perfikot couldn't help feeling emotional. If it weren't for this eye, she might have died in the disaster that brought her here three years ago, let alone be alive now to worry about how to survive.

Shaking her head to dispel these unwanted emotions, Perfikot's beautiful face returned to its cold expression, and she adjusted herself back to her working state.

Seating herself at her desk, Perfikot sorted through the scattered blueprints, ready to continue perfecting her Flying Airship design.

Before her transmigration, Perfikot was a steampunk enthusiast, with an unexplainable passion for difference engines, steam engines, and mechanical gear systems.

In the past, she enjoyed using 3D modeling and drawing to design small steampunk-related gadgets. The Flying Airship, as a symbol of steampunk, naturally had seen her achievements and understanding.

It's important to know that this world is still in the era of the first industrial revolution. Although it has mysterious forces propelling some bizarre technological advancements, it has not yet transcended the domain of the first industrial revolution, and productivity has indeed seen significant growth.

But to construct a large flying vehicle? Perfikot immediately thought of the zeppelins from her pre-transmigration world, capable of traversing the Atlantic Ocean.
