Chapter 7 - Chapter 007: Constraints of Reality

The large movie theater suddenly fell silent, with only the faint sound of a young woman's sobbing coming through. The little girl seemed to realize she had caused trouble and held the woman tightly, burying her face in her embrace.

"The combination of little yellow people and a little girl's voice gives quite a horror movie vibe!"

A middle-aged man with a small mustache sitting in the center of the theater chuckled and continued, "Personally, I quite like horror movies, so I don't object to them staying!"

"I don't object either!"

"I agree they should stay!"

Voices from dozens of people echoed in succession in the theater, expressing their willingness for them to stay!

Seeing this, the theater staff invited the mother and daughter back to their seats.

Amidst the young woman's constant bows of thanks, the film resumed playing.

During the subsequent screening, the little girl's shouts occasionally rang out again.

However, even Lin Jie, who was very sensitive to unusual noises, found that the voice was no longer as jarring as before.

The woman's actions reminded him of his loving grandparents who always cherished him.

Though the two elders were very strict with him, they devoted all their efforts to him and Lin Miao, trying their best to create a better living environment for them.

When the movie ended, Lin Jie, filled with emotions, didn't hurry to leave. Holding a half-eaten tub of popcorn, he approached the mother and daughter, hoping to offer some help.

When Lin Jie got near the mother and daughter, they were already surrounded by two pairs of young people.

In one pair, the young man wore glasses, had a fair complexion, and appeared gentle and refined.

The woman standing beside him seemed sunny and cheerful, with sleek black long hair and a tight-fitting denim outfit, highlighting her slim waist and long legs.

The other man had a slightly chubby figure, especially his round face with a double chin.

The woman beside him was particularly eye-catching, with medium-length, burgundy hair and exquisite makeup.

In terms of looks alone, she wasn't as pretty as the glasses man's girlfriend, but she had a fiery figure and dressed provocatively, drawing attention, including Lin Jie's, who couldn't help glancing a few more times.

The denim-clad woman immediately sensed it, giving the glasses man a fierce glare.

The glasses man immediately withdrew his gaze, adjusted his glasses, and arrogantly said to the woman, "Hello, I'm Fang Feiyu, a neurosurgeon at Binhai University Affiliated Medical College, and I wonder if you brought the little girl's CT scans?"

"Yes! Yes!"

The woman hastily dug out an iPad from her bag, tapped a few times, and said, "I've taken pictures of the case and the scans here. Dr. Fang, please take a look!"

Fang Feiyu took the iPad and started flipping through the photos one by one.

After a while, he pondered for a moment, then returned the iPad to the woman, solemnly saying, "Your daughter has a glioma in her brain. From the CT images, the tumor should be over 6 centimeters in size. It's a malignant brain tumor..."

"Stop! Stop!"

The chubby young man, a bit annoyed, interrupted Fang Feiyu unceremoniously, "The diagnosis is already confirmed at the hospital; they naturally know what kind of tumor it is. Do you need to give a lecture?"

"Don't waste their precious time. I'm just asking you a question, can you treat it, is there any way to treat it?"

Fang Feiyu's face showed a hint of anger as he unhappily said, "Such a large and irregularly shaped glioma, I can't treat it!"

"Not only me, but even if our department chief personally performs the surgery, the success rate wouldn't exceed twenty percent! Even if it's successful, it's very likely to recur within one or two years!"

He confidently said, "However, I can offer a relatively conservative treatment option, using radiotherapy and medication to control it, which can at least extend the little girl's life by a year!"

Fang Feiyu sidelong glanced at the chubby young man disdainfully, "I can extend the little girl's life by a year, what miracle cure do you have? Don't tell me you plan to donate some medical expenses?"

"But no matter how much money, you can't buy time!"

"Bah!" The chubby young man disdainfully spat, loudly saying, "Who says money can't buy time? Keke, tell him, can I buy time?"

The sexy girl named Keke, hugging the chubby young man's arm, said coyly, "My Brother Xuan's family owns a hospital, a very impressive hospital. As long as it's not a fatal illness, they can save people."

"A hospital? It sounds more like a clinic to me!"

Fang Feiyu sneered and then realized, "Oh... I see, is it a specialized hospital for infertility treatment, or maybe a cosmetic surgery hospital?"

At this point, Lin Jie was deep in thought, holding the woman's iPad.

A 3D image of a tumor resembling a crab was slowly rotating in his mind, with various routes appearing and disappearing in different parts of the tumor.

Lin Jie was considering the possible surgical removal route of the tumor!

For a glioma of this size, surgery is the first step in treatment, followed by medication control, Gamma Knife, etc.

However, gliomas are hard to cure and often recur.

After tumor recurrence, depending on the patient's functional status, re-surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc., can be considered.

But in general, recurrent glioma is equivalent to a death sentence for the patient, so the first surgery is critical.

As long as the tumor is thoroughly removed in the first surgery, combined with subsequent control and radiochemotherapy, there is still hope for curing gliomas.

"What? Your family's hospital... is... Binhai Kangning Hospital?"

Fang Feiyu couldn't hide the surprise on his face. As an industry insider, he naturally knew the reputation of Binhai Kangning Hospital.

It is actually a specialized private hospital focusing on cardiac and brain organs, and has been around for over twenty years.

It holds a significant position not only domestically in the fields of cardiac and brain organs but also has a certain reputation internationally, with good cooperative relationships with Germany, the United States, and some well-known institutions.

Considering his aspirations and plans, Fang Feiyu couldn't help but show a fawning smile and said, "Oh, you're a member of the Hu Family! I apologize for my earlier offense and ask for your forgiveness."

The chubby man was very satisfied with Fang Feiyu's surprise and change of attitude, generously waving his chubby hand, "No problem! Other than I'm not skilled, everyone in my family is doctors."

"I'll ask my family to have the girl checked again at our hospital, and maybe there will be hope for a cure!"

At this time, the chubby man suddenly felt a weight in his hand, as the thin young man next to him, who had been silent all along, placed the iPad into his hand.

While he was puzzled, the thin young man spoke, "Enter through the nasal and top separately, use a microsurgery probe through the nasal passage, first via the Roussel route, then the Gosse route."

"As long as it's carefully operated, the lower limb of the tumor can be safely reached with only the left eye's vision being affected. As long as the operating surgeon is above average, the tumor can be perfectly removed, allowing the girl at least ten more years of life!"

Of course, it was Lin Jie who said this!

In his earlier contemplation, he had come up with a minimally damaging, most effective surgical route, eager to blurt it out, "This surgery, I can treat, I can operate!"

Just as the words reached his mouth, Lin Jie suddenly realized something: he's not a doctor!

No matter where, being a doctor is a profession with strict entry mechanisms.

In the United States, to become a doctor, one first needs to graduate from a regular university, then attend a four-year medical school. Passing students can receive a medical degree after graduation but still cannot become official doctors.

Subsequently, graduates must apply for a residency program, become intern doctors, and complete 3 to 7 years of internship before passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination to become attending physicians.

Overall, to become an ordinary doctor in the United States, from the university stage to completing studies and internships, it takes at least 11 years.

In contrast, the domestic doctor training model mainly follows the "5+3" mode.

After 5 years of undergraduate medical education, a doctor undergoes 3 years of standard residency training. Upon passing the final assessment, they obtain the qualification to practice medicine.

Comparatively, the domestic training duration is shorter, but even so, it's beyond Lin Jie's reach.

Realizing this, Lin Jie felt very dejected and his hope of making money through his medical skills was dashed.

Utterly disappointed, after simply recounting his surgical plan to Fang Feiyu and the chubby man, Lin Jie turned and left.

Not until Lin Jie had walked out of the theater did the chubby man come to his senses, angrily saying, "Darn it, what was that brat saying? It's really baffling!"

After a pause, Fang Feiyu softly said, "Roussel and Gosse are both big names in neurosurgery. They each created a neurosurgical pathway named after themselves."

"But this pathway requires precise control, and very few neurosurgeons can reach this level."

Looking toward the door where Lin Jie had disappeared, Fang Feiyu mused, "This young man looks only sixteen or seventeen; how could he know such professional medical terms?"
