Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Passionate Secretary-General

Hearing this, Li Jing was slightly taken aback, not expecting the other party to be so proactive.

Moreover, he hadn't paid much attention before, but now observing the other person's face up close, Li Jing noticed that Wei Jia had very distinctive features.

Wei Jia didn't have the typical egg-shaped face of a petite woman, but rather had slight angularity. Her eyebrows were thin and long, yet carried a touch of heroism. Her eyes were narrow and lively, often revealing a mature allure. If not for the thin-framed glasses she wore, which masked some of the charm in her gaze, it would have been even more striking.

With her bold red lipstick, her overall appearance seemed elegant and mature, yet carried a hint of allure.

If An Tong was the pretty princess type of girl, then Wei Jia resembled a perfect queen in stature and appearance, exuding a mature attraction.

"Hmm? Unwilling?"

Seeing Li Jing not responding, Wei Jia wasn't annoyed but rather noticed he was captivated by her looks, smiling even brighter, her eyes curving slightly, resembling Daji possessed by a fox spirit, as if possessing a soul-charming power.

Seductress…

Truly a seductress, no wonder that middle-aged man was so drawn to her.

Li Jing remarked secretly, regaining his composure, gently holding her fingertips, and calmly said, "My name is Li Jing."

Ding.

As he finished speaking, the elevator reached the floor of Wei Jia's room.

Seeing this, Wei Jia seemed a bit disappointed, "I have to go out."

She handed a business card to Li Jing, smiled again, and said, "I hope we get another chance to chat next time."

Once the elevator doors closed, Li Jing let out a breath, and his racing heart gradually settled.

"Secretary-General of Linmen Commerce Association?"

Li Jing glanced at the business card, confirming her identity, "Linmen City is a fairly well-developed second-tier city near Celestial Sea City. It seems this Wei Jia is probably here on a business trip; no wonder she seemed like she just finished socializing."

After a brief analysis, he walked out of the elevator and returned to his suite.

Although Wei Jia appeared proactive and open, the scene of her rejecting that balding middle-aged man still lingered in Li Jing's mind.

Probably, although she seemed easygoing, she actually had her clear boundaries and principles; honest people would just be toyed around by her.

But why did she appear to have a liking for him?

Because of money? No, that balding man didn't seem short of money either.

Then what was it?

Because he's handsome?

Li Jing stood in front of the full-length mirror, examining his appearance.

To be honest, with the outfit matched by An Tong, he looked quite good in terms of looks and aura, but saying that was the only reason Wei Jia was attracted to him, Li Jing didn't buy it.

But then again, as a man, used to worrying about not having women interested in him, was he now afraid of being fancied by a beauty?

Not to mention just one, Li Jing felt that in his youthful and vigorous state, even a few more wouldn't be a problem.

Thinking this, Li Jing no longer worried, finished washing up, and lay on the big bed in the bedroom, quickly falling asleep.

...

Meanwhile, in another night view room.

Wei Jia was leisurely lying in a bathtub full of white bubbles, the full northern hemisphere emerging from the water, leaving transparent traces of moisture on her skin, making it look as delicate as a puff.

She lit a lady's cigarette, lifted her slender legs to rest on the edge of the tub, and after slowly exhaling a faint smoke ring, she picked up the phone that had been vibrating for a dozen seconds.

"Hello, Jiajia, why hasn't that doctor Xiaoxu from the blind date I arranged last time contacted you?"

As soon as the call connected, her mother's anxious questioning came through, "He had a great impression of you, why didn't you even accept his WeChat? Do you even want to get married??"

"Didn't I tell you?"

Wei Jia had anticipated her mother's questions, resting her neck lazily on the bathtub edge, looking at the ceiling, "If I don't meet the right person, I'd rather not marry."

"The right one? What do you mean by that?! Doctor, teacher, civil servant, I've found them all for you, and you're still not satisfied?"

It seemed Wei Jia's words annoyed her mother, as the voice on the phone raised a few pitches, "Wei Jia, you're already thirty! A woman over thirty only keeps losing value.

You're wasting your youth waiting for your Mr. Right, making yourself less valuable, and fewer men will be interested in you!"

"Mom, I'm not a product."

Wei Jia's tone turned slightly cold, "If I'm old and unattractive and end up alone, so be it; I can at least support myself."

"What use is being able to support yourself?!"

The voice on the other end grew more agitated, "When you're old, with no one to take care of you, falling ill at home with no one to take you to the hospital!

Just like your second cousin, who had a heart attack and died at home without anyone knowing! What's the use of money then?"

"When that time comes, if I die, then I die."

"Wei Jia! You're going to be the death of me… beep beep beep."

Before her mother could finish, Wei Jia had already hung up.

She had anticipated this unpleasant conversation but had no solution because both she and her mother were headstrong, and neither would back down.

"Why can men spend their youth on their careers, but women have to marry a good man, then raise children?"

Wei Jia looked at the deep night outside the window, her face reflected on the glass showing resilience and determination.

She had excelled in school since she was young, and her personality was assertive; she was the class leader every year from primary to high school.

Her dream was to become a strong woman, an outstanding female entrepreneur.

Now she had founded her own company and become a member of Linshui Commerce Association, serving also as the association's secretary-general.

The secretary-general position didn't come with a salary and occupied her energy and time.

But being the secretary-general allowed her to connect with more enterprises, gaining priority access to information and resources, thus developing her company, so she tirelessly juggled between her company and the association all year round.

Fortunately, her efforts hadn't been in vain; her company had been getting better and better over the past two years.

Just as her career was entering a rapid growth phase, her parents began worrying about her marriage, constantly using connections to find what they considered outstanding men, trying hard to matchmake.

At first, Wei Jia cooperated with her parents and went on several blind dates, but due to differing opinions with her mother, it eventually led to the current situation.

"Phew..."

Wei Jia let out a deep breath. Although her exterior seemed strong and full of energy, internally she was already exhausted.

In fact, she wasn't against falling in love and getting married; she even had two boyfriends during school.

However, her stronger desire for career advancement made her prioritize her emotions lower.

Especially now, being so busy with work, where would she find the time to date like a young girl?

But claiming she had no longing for romance would also be false.

Being an ordinary woman, she still had normal needs, just suppressed over these years.

Sometimes she would even reminisce about her youthful school years, the first crush—a boy who studied earnestly with her, discussed topics, and strolled on the school grounds...

More than missing that person, she missed the feelings and times associated with those memories.

Thinking of this, Li Jing from earlier at the hotel crossed her mind, making her lips curve into a pleasant arc:

"This person is quite interesting—despite wearing Gucci, he doesn't give off the vibe of a rich second generation.

Though spending tens of thousands to stay at the hotel like a nouveau riche without batting an eye, he carried a scholarly air, completely unlike a businessman."

"The most important thing is..."

Wei Jia lay in the bathtub, eyes misty, red lips slightly parted, "There's something about his temperament that really resembles my first love during those school days..."

"I'll be heading back to Linmen City in a few days. I wonder if I'll have the chance to see him again.

I was probably too forward today; maybe it scared him off, haha..."

Under the night, within the bathtub.

Wei Jia laughed, the water rippling around her, revealing a glimpse of spring bliss.
