So everyone saw this and thought you are treating people like fools, thus Martin Luther came up with 'justification by faith,' which developed into the Lutheran Church.

As long as you believe in God, you're righteous, no need to go to the Holy See to buy indulgences.

This concept was indeed advanced at the time, but everyone wanted to seize the right to interpret the Bible for personal gain, using religion to ease their moral guilt from wrongdoing.
