Zoe's POV

The heavy curtain brushed against my shoulder as I slipped into the corridor. The noise from the room—chatter, burst of laughter, the hum of music from the showcase—muffled behind me until it was a little more than a pulse echoing through the walls. The air was cooler, my breath shallow and uneven, adrenaline from the runway still burning through me like fire

I hadn't even thought it through when I followed Casey. Instinct had pulled me forward, anger pushing me past reason. But as my eyes adjusted to the dim hallway, my steps slowed. I had seen Brandon.

He was coming toward me from the far end, fast, his long strides cutting through the shadows like someone with purpose. My stomach knotted. His eyes were in my direction, determined, and were locked straight ahead, and every nerve in my body screamed that he was heading for me.

My breath caught, and for a second, I couldn't breathe.
