Brandon's POV
"Wanna meet up. Let's talk."
Elizabeth's message glared back at me from the screen, each word pulsing like a heartbeat I didn't want to feel.
I just stared, temples throbbing, trying to make sense of it. After catching her with my dad in that hotel lobby—when she was supposed to be in SilverRidge—how could she dare to ask me this? Wasn't she supposed to keep lying, keep pretending she wasn't in town?
Now she wanted to talk. To meet up.
A smirk curled at my lips, sharp and bitter. My teeth pressed into my lower lip as my thumbs moved faster than my thoughts.
Yes. Where?
I didn't wait for regret to catch me. Didn't think it through. I shoved my phone into my pocket and headed straight for my truck, my stride faster than usual. My bag hit the passenger seat with a dull thud as I fired up the engine.
