Brandon's POV

"Don't forget, curfew is by six!" Mom's voice floated out of the kitchen, followed by the steady drip of water from the faucet.

I scrunched my face, shaking my head in quiet disagreement. Curfew was the least of my worries. What did it matter if I was home by six when the rest of my life felt like it was unraveling?

I already had my day planned out. It was reliable, or so I thought. Go with Seth for the ad shoot, stick around long enough to show support, then slip away once things were less hectic. I'd still make it to the meeting with Coach Pat and the coach. Everything would fall into place. The perfect plan.

I told myself that a hundred times as I sat at the breakfast table, pretending like my stomach wasn't tying itself into knots.

Seth was in full spirit, buzzing with energy like a kid on Christmas morning. He kept smiling at me, practically beaming, his knee bouncing under the table with restless excitement.
