Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Beyond The Mirror.

Ava stepped forward again – her bare foot disappearing into darkness. She felt damp earth beneath her skin. She hesitated, heart racing with anticipation and fear.

What if she became trapped – stuck between worlds?

But curiosity propelled her forward,

and she stepped again, her other foot sinking into darkness.

The mirror's surface shimmered behind her,

reflecting nothing but trees.Ava stood, brushing dirt from her skin. She looked around again, her eyes adjusting slowly to darkness. Trees towered above, their branches creaking softly.

...As she walked, the forest grew denser, a labyrinthine tapestry of trees looming above her like sentinels. Their branches tangled together in a macabre waltz, skeletal fingers grasping for the moon's silver light. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, a noxious miasma that clung to her skin like a damp shroud.

Ava's heart pounded in her chest, a percussive cadence that echoed through her very being. Her senses were on high alert, her skin prickling with gooseflesh as she felt unseen eyes upon her. The trees seemed to shift and twist around her, their shadows dancing upon the ground like demons.

Suddenly, the mirror's surface rippled behind her like a disturbed lake. Ava spun around, her heart leaping into her throat – but it had stilled once more, its surface glazing over like ice. She felt a shiver run down her spine, her very soul quaking with trepidation. Was she truly alone in this foreboding forest?

...Ava took a step forward, her foot snapping a twig like a gunshot. The sound echoed through the forest, a stark contrast to the eerie silence – making her jump. Her heart racing, she froze – like a deer caught in the crosshairs.

The forest seemed to hold its breath, the trees standing guard like specters. Ava's skin was slick with sweat, her breath coming in ragged gasps – as if she'd run a marathon. She felt like she was walking through a nightmare, the forest shifting and twisting around her like a living, breathing entity.

Another step forward, and another – her heart pounding in her chest like a drum. The trees loomed closer, their branches creaking ominously – like an old wooden door hinges. Ava's senses were overwhelmed, her mind reeling from the sheer terror of it all.

Suddenly, she saw eyes glowing in darkness – like embers from a fire. Ava's blood ran cold, her heart nearly stopping. What lurked in the darkness, watching her?
