Chapter 34 - Zhou Yi's Desire to Take a Disciple

Zhou Yi did not look at Ning Ruoxue. It seemed like she hadn't heard her at all. Instead, her gaze kept shifting toward Liang Jingjing, who was collapsed in Ning Ruoxue's arms. At this moment, Zhou Yi was undoubtedly shocked. Liang Jingjing had seemed unremarkable throughout the match, but her opponent was a genuine Agility Attack-type Soul Master, and Liang Jingjing, on the other hand, was a Food-type Soul Master.

What does a Food-type Soul Master entail? Food-type Soul Masters are classified as auxiliary-type Soul Masters, meaning that, typically, they should have no combat abilities, just like Ning Ruoxue and Ning Tian. This had been the norm for millennia.

Earlier, when Liang Jingjing first introduced herself as a Food Defensive-type Soul Master, Zhou Yi had inwardly sighed, feeling that this girl had chosen the wrong path and would inevitably regret it in the future. But after witnessing the various tricks this girl had shown, she realized how utterly wrong she had been. Who said auxiliary-type Soul Masters lacked combat power? The first generation of Shrek's Seven Monsters, particularly Oscar, a Food-type Soul Master, had shown immense combat potential. Cultivation cannot simply follow the old paths. If one always sticks to the footsteps of predecessors, they will only be an exceptional scholar, nothing more. In an instant, Zhou Yi seemed to have realized much.

"Little girl, this is just a competition. Why push yourself so hard?"Zhou Yi asked softly, looking down at Liang Jingjing, whose face was pale.

"I... I want to become stronger. I want to protect the people I care about. I don't want to be a useless person, but I don't have extraordinary talent... So, what other reason is there not to fight hard?" Because of her weakness, Liang Jingjing's voice was barely audible, only those close by could hear.

"Sister."Liang Siyuan, standing to the side, was unknowingly moved to tears.

"Make those two bitches get lost, and never let them step foot into the Liang family again."

"Still calling him Young Master? That woman must be crazy trying to rise through the ranks. A sparrow can never become a phoenix, haha..."

Memories of the past flooded Liang Siyuan's mind. The mocking and taunting voices were so harsh, and even after all these years, they were still hard to forget. What made him even angrier was that cowardly, incompetent, irresponsible man. When he thought of his so-called father, Liang Siyuan's breathing quickened. It was he, that man, who had brought humiliation to their mother and son, and he would never forget it.

"Wait for it. I will return. What you have given us, my sister and I, I will repay a thousandfold. That day is not far off." Thinking this, Liang Siyuan's chaotic emotions calmed down quickly. Looking at his sister, all he saw in her eyes was love and pride. "Sister, you did it. They were wrong about you. You are not useless. I am proud of you."

"Good, good child."Zhou Yi extended her hand and gently patted Liang Jingjing's little head. Her gaze was softer than ever, and she smiled warmly as she said, "Little girl, would you be willing to become my disciple?"

"Huh?"Liang Jingjing was momentarily stunned. She thought she might have misheard due to her weakness.

"I am now a 67th-level Battle Soul Emperor. I believe I can teach you without any problems. What do you think? Would you be willing?"

This time, Liang Jingjing was certain she hadn't misheard. "Ah, well, Teacher Zhou, I..." She stammered. This was their first meeting, and she didn't know much about Zhou Yi. She wanted to decline but didn't know how to express herself.

Seeing her hesitating, Zhou Yi smiled and said, "It seems I was a bit hasty. No worries. You can continue your studies as normal. There's no rush to become my disciple."

As soon as Zhou Yi spoke these words, the other students around them immediately realized her intentions. Teacher Zhou was clearly confident that Liang Jingjing would pass the academy's assessment.

"Thank you, Teacher Zhou. I... It's just that we are meeting for the first time, and I wasn't prepared..."Liang Jingjing was flustered, and her words became jumbled.

"Alright, you should rest now. You need to prepare for the next round of the competition."Zhou Yi said, and Liang Siyuan and Ning Ruoxue helped the still-weak Liang Jingjing leave the center of the arena and head to the observation area. The three of them found a quiet spot to sit down, trying to recover their soul power. Every team had at least two matches today, so they needed to recover as much as possible to face the upcoming battles.

The competition continued. Although the matches were competitive, after witnessing the impressive performances of Ning Tian and Ning Ruoxue's team, most of the audience found little interest in these ordinary duels. Huo Yuhao, Dong Xinyi, and Xiao Xiao didn't appear until the fifth match, and their opponents were somewhat unexpected. The audience perked up when they realized that their opponents were none other than the much-anticipated Ning Tian team.

"Now, the fifth match. The participants are: Huo Yuhao, Dong Xinyi, Xiao Xiao, Ning Tian, Wu Feng, and Nanmen Yun'er."

As Zhou Yi's voice fell, the six participants—Huo Yuhao, Dong Xinyi, Xiao Xiao, Ning Tian, Wu Feng, and Nanmen Yun'er—stepped onto the field. The two teams faced each other from a distance of about ten meters. Dong Xinyi and Xiao Xiao remained calm and confident, their lack of nerves stemming from their belief in their own strength. Besides their personal abilities, they also trusted their captain, Huo Yuhao. They had seen firsthand that he was no ordinary Second Ring Soul Master, and even facing Third Ring Soul Masters, they were confident in their ability to compete.

Of course, their opponents had Third Ring Soul Masters, but they weren't worried. Since Ning Tian wasn't a combat-type Soul Master, they believed the outcome was already determined.

Nanmen Yun'er and Wu Feng were eager to fight. They knew they were up against the strongest team of Class One, but they weren't intimidated. They had been winning consistently over the past few days, and they were ready for this battle.

As for the two captains, Ning Tian appeared as calm as always, giving the illusion that everything was under control. However, inside, she was feeling the pressure. Zhou Yi's teaching method was notoriously grueling, but there was one undeniable fact—none of her students were weak, just like Ning Ruoxue. In fact, the ones who didn't perform well had already been expelled by Zhou Yi.

Ning Tian couldn't help but feel the pressure. Wu Feng and Nanmen Yun'er might be carefree, but she couldn't afford to be. As the captain, she had to consider more than just the immediate outcome. "Although I can assist Wu Feng by enhancing their strength, it's still limited. The opponents have three battle-type Soul Masters, and soon we'll be outnumbered. If this were any other team, it wouldn't matter, but they're from the strongest team in Class One. This battle may not go as smoothly as expected..."

Ning Tian sighed inwardly. She knew that feeling anxious before a fight wasn't ideal, but it was difficult not to feel it. It was simply too rational.

Below, Ning Ruoxue and the others on the observation stand were relieved. At least there wouldn't be any internal discord within Class One this time. They silently cheered, "Bring on the storm!" It wasn't that they couldn't accept defeat, but Wu Feng was just so irritating. Her arrogant attitude was hard to tolerate.
