Chapter 289 - Chicken Leg Douluo in Action

"What? You're going to the Heavenly Court?"

In the Mingde Hall, the estate of the Hongchen family echoed with Jing Hongchen's furious voice.

"Grandfather, I've made up my mind. I hope you'll respect my choice."

Opposite him, his grandson Xiao Hongchen lifted his chin, stubborn as ever.

Seeing his grandson so determined, Jing Hongchen's temper flared. He slammed the table, pointed at Xiao Hongchen's nose, and roared:"You brainless fool! The founder of the Heavenly Court is Huo Yuhao! His disciple can't be poisoned! Just recently, the Tianhun and Douling sects were still trying to court the main branch. If you throw yourself into the Heavenly Court, what will the ministers think? What about the Emperor? How will the Hongchen family survive in the Empire?"

"Do you even realize the Heavenly Court is at the center of a storm? How many eyes are watching it? Are you trying to throw your life away by barging in?"

Xiao Hongchen had never seen his grandfather this angry. The rage, the shouting, and Jing Hongchen's Douluo-level pressure left him speechless.

Only now did he realize he had been oversimplifying things.

Seeing his grandson subdued, Jing Hongchen's anger eased slightly. His voice softened:"Tell me… why do you want to go to the Heavenly Court? Give me a satisfactory answer, or you won't leave this room."

Xiao Hongchen's eyes lit up. After a brief silence, he asked,"Grandfather, the last time you went to the Heavenly Court… what did you think of Huo Yuhao? I mean his strength."

Jing Hongchen didn't expect this question, but it reminded him of the scene outside the Heavenly Court's temple: that kid shocking a challenger and killing them with sheer presence.

He hesitated, worried that the truth might crush his grandson.

Xiao Hongchen noticed his grandfather's unease and guessed his concern. He smiled:"Grandfather, it's okay… I know. My gap with him is too big. You're worried I'll be discouraged, right?"

This kid actually has some self-awareness… Jing Hongchen thought. Yet his reaction was unusual. This brat was usually arrogant and reckless. What he just said wasn't the kind of thing he'd normally say.

Nonetheless, his calm mindset now was a relief. Jing Hongchen sighed:"I don't even know how to put it… that kid's cultivation is only at Soul Emperor, but he gives me an unreadable feeling."

He paused, then spoke earnestly:"Xiao… the Heavenly Court is a vortex, right in the Douluo Three Kingdoms. If you really get involved and something happens, even I might not reach you in time. And even if I did… I might not have the strength to save you."

Xiao Hongchen frowned:"Grandfather, are you really that pessimistic about the Heavenly Court? Why does it sound like it could be destroyed at any moment?"

"Human greed. The Heavenly Court holds things everyone desires. That alone ensures future conflicts with other forces are inevitable. Especially Shrek—sitting at the top of the continent's power structure for so long—they won't allow someone else to rise over them and step all over them."

Hearing his grandfather's explanation, Xiao Hongchen went silent. He realized he had indeed underestimated the situation.

Yet he still refused to give up. Looking up at Jing Hongchen, his eyes were unwavering.

"Grandfather, I've made up my mind. I want to go to the Heavenly Court. Being around weaklings isn't meaningful. I can't surpass Huo Yuhao yet… but I'll chase him. Even if I never catch up."

"Platforms are important. Being in the same era as someone like him is both lucky and unlucky. The unlucky part? You'll never reach his pace. But isn't that more interesting? Life isn't always smooth sailing. That's what makes it exciting, giving me the drive to fight forward."

Xiao Hongchen's gaze burned, as if recalling the Soul Master tournament a year ago.

He remembered clearly:Those I defeat are never true opponents. I give you time to chase… until you vanish from sight.

And it's true. Today, I no longer even have the qualification to be your opponent. But so what? Even if I can't catch up, I won't stop moving.

Jing Hongchen froze, stunned. Is this still my unreliable grandson? Could he really say this?

Looking into Xiao Hongchen's determined eyes, Jing Hongchen felt a flicker of doubt. Even a fledgling eagle can spread its wings… perhaps it was time to respect his grandson's choice.

Moreover, the boy had the courage to face danger head-on. That was something to support.

Nearby, Meng Hongchen's eyes sparkled like stars, dazzled by her older brother's bold declaration.

Jing Hongchen remained silent for a long time. Words gathered on his lips but never left. Finally, he sighed.

"I can agree. I'll go with you, at least to gauge the Heavenly Court's attitude. If Huo Yuhao is hostile to the Sun and Moon Empire, I won't allow you to join, no matter what."

He compromised, though with conditions. Understandable—he wouldn't let his grandson walk into a tiger's den.

Xiao Hongchen nodded slightly, showing his agreement.

"Grandfather…"

At that moment, Meng Hongchen's soft voice sounded.

"What now? Don't tell me you also want to go to the Heavenly Court."

Jing Hongchen immediately looked at his granddaughter, wary she might cause trouble.

Seeing his reaction, Meng Hongchen smiled playfully."Hehe, you misunderstand, Grandfather. I'm not letting anyone control me. I just want to tag along for a bit of fun."

That night, a lone figure silently left the Sea God Island.

Xuanzi's gaze was resolute. No matter what, he would eliminate that threat. Watching Huo Yuhao's rapid growth, a trace of fear crept into Xuanzi's heart. If left unchecked, soon no one would be able to deal with that brat.

The departure went unnoticed by the Sea God Pavilion elders—except one.

Inside the pavilion, Mu En opened his murky eyes, staring at Xuanzi's direction. Silently, he prayed for his success.

As the Pavilion Master, Mu En always prioritized the interests of the Sea God Pavilion and Shrek. Reaching his current position demanded ruthless methods.

He knew Xuanzi's purpose, but didn't intend to stop him. In fact, he shared the same concern. He had attended the Heavenly Court's founding ceremony and witnessed the child's terror firsthand.

Not only did he refrain from stopping him, Mu En also left resources with Xuanzi, ready to aid him if necessary.

At Luocang Mountain Heavenly Court, Huo Yuhao remained unaware of the approaching danger. But he didn't think much of it—because a greater crisis was already upon him.
