Chapter 318 - Zhang Lexuan Picks Up a “Corpse”

Evil Sovereign Inn.

Zhang Lexuan arrived at the front desk carrying a man covered head to toe in blood. The receptionist wasn't surprised in the slightest. After all, this inn stood at the edge of the Evil Demon Forest, catering to soul masters. People getting severely injured—or worse—while hunting soul beasts was nothing new.

"Hello. I'd like to rent a room," Zhang Lexuan said calmly.

With one hand holding the man, she passed a black gold soul-coin card across the counter with the other.

"Of course, madam," the receptionist replied while taking the card. "Would you like us to contact a healing-type soul master for you?"

He wasn't being kind out of the goodness of his heart. If the referral succeeded, he'd get a cut from the healer. In this line of work, everyone had side hustles.

The moment he saw the black card, he knew this woman wasn't short on money.

In plain terms: jackpot. A rich woman.

Zhang Lexuan glanced at the man's injuries. Ordinary healers wouldn't be able to do much."Do you have a healing-type soul master above Soul King level?"

The receptionist's heart practically bloomed. High demands meant higher commissions.

"Yes, madam. Given this gentleman's condition, I strongly recommend Lord—ah, Lady—Buren."

"What is her martial soul?" Zhang Lexuan asked.

"Lady Buren's martial soul is the Healing Scepter. She's a level sixty-five Soul Emperor."

The receptionist spoke with open admiration. A Soul Emperor… If only his innate soul power hadn't been trash. That realm was forever out of reach for him.

Zhang Lexuan was slightly surprised. The Healing Scepter was top-tier even among support-type martial souls. A pure healing Soul Emperor would be welcomed by any major force—yet this one lingered in a place like this. Frankly, it was beneath her.

Still, that wasn't Zhang Lexuan's concern.

"Please contact Lady Buren for me."

The receptionist gave an awkward smile."Lady Buren is… also a beautiful woman. And I should remind you—her fee—"

He didn't finish the sentence.

Those who understood, understood.

"Money isn't an issue," Zhang Lexuan said flatly. "Please be quick."

"Of course. Here's your room key. I'll arrange for Lady Buren immediately."

Inside the room, a woman in green robes holding a jade-green scepter slowly withdrew her soul power. This was Lady Buren—a level sixty-five pure healing Soul Emperor.

"Lady Buren, how is he?" Zhang Lexuan asked, stepping forward and thoughtfully handing her a handkerchief.

"Thank you."

Buren wiped the sweat from her forehead before speaking seriously.

"I must apologize. This gentleman's cultivation is extremely high. I'm unable to fully heal him."

"His injuries aren't limited to his body—his soul is damaged as well. While my martial soul can treat soul injuries to some extent, the gap between our cultivations is too great. My healing is… negligible."

"And for some reason, there seems to be a force subtly resisting my treatment."

"My soul power is exhausted for now. I've stabilized his condition—he won't worsen for several days. I can return tonight to continue. Would that be acceptable?"

Zhang Lexuan nodded slightly."Thank you for your trouble."

"There's no need for thanks," Buren replied. "But I must warn you, senior—the damage to his soul is extremely severe. I am powerless in that regard. I don't know why his condition hasn't deteriorated further, but you should seek a soul-specialized healer as soon as possible."

As they spoke, countless specks of light silently flowed in from all directions, merging into the man's body. The energy was colorless, odorless, and utterly undetectable.

"I understand. Thank you. Please go rest," Zhang Lexuan said.

After Buren left, Zhang Lexuan stood beside the bed and grasped the man's uninjured arm, probing his cultivation.

Even a Soul Emperor had described him as "highly cultivated." That piqued her curiosity.

And then—

Shock.

This man was a level seventy-eight Soul Saint.

A Soul Saint alone wouldn't have stunned her—but she could tell immediately that he wasn't older than she was.

Frowning, Zhang Lexuan pinched his ankle. This wasn't impropriety—it was bone examination. Any competent soul master could roughly determine age through bone structure.

The result froze her in place.

Fourteen years old.

A fourteen-year-old Soul Saint.

Unbelievable.

She checked again. And again. And again.

By the end, she had practically examined his entire body—but the result never changed.

Silence.

A fourteen-year-old Soul Saint. Any force would worship such a monster like an ancestor. This was someone destined to become a Limit Douluo.

But that wasn't what troubled her most.

It was his identity.

She had never heard of such a prodigy—except one.

The most monstrous talent she had ever seen belonged to Huo Yuhao of the Heavenly Court. Also fourteen. Already a Soul Emperor back then—and possibly a Soul Saint by now, given his terrifying growth rate.

Her body trembled.

She looked at the man on the bed.

Could it be him?

But… was there truly anyone in this world capable of injuring him to this extent?

She quickly ordered hot water and towels.

When the blood was cleaned from his face, her doubts vanished.

Even though the lower half of his face was mangled beyond recognition, she was certain.

The hair.The features.The cultivation.

There was no mistake.

It was him.

Zhang Lexuan hesitated.

By all logic, Elder Xuan had already become his enemy. Killing him now would be the correct choice—and this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Yet she couldn't bring herself to do it.

She knew his past. Knew how much suffering he'd endured. His personality wasn't born—it was forged by his environment.

And truthfully, it was the academy that had first antagonized him, driven by greed for the Bright Realm and the soul-ring enhancement method.

"…Forget it."

"I'll take you back to Sea God Pavilion."

"How you're dealt with will be Elder Mu's decision."

Zhang Lexuan made her choice.

In his current state, he wouldn't be able to stir up any trouble there.

But first—she'd wait until his injuries recovered a bit.

Otherwise, he might just die on the way.
