Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Uncovering

Roman stays outside the fortress until something catches his attention. A bright blue light comes from the nearby forest. "We shall go investigate!" "No, I don't want to risk any of you dying, so I'll go"

He mounts his steed and heads off to the forest. He looks through the forest for a while until the blue light returns. He tracks it to its source until he hears a rustling noise from the bushes. The draws his blade and hacks at the bushes until a magic arrow hits him in the face. This quickly angers him as he gets pelted with more magic arrows until he finds out what's causing it. "A dark elf! I'll cleave you in half!"

Roman swings at the elf violently, however it manages to barely dodge the swings until it's leg gets caught in a thorn bush and gets impaled by his blade. "There is no way just one elf managed to create that big of a magic blast. There must be others in this forest."

His hypothesis ends up being true as four more pop out of the trees and bushes.

He quickly takes out two of them, however one of them flees out of fear leaving the last one. He lunges at it, however misses but rebounds off a tree, charging up a strike, but ends up clashing with them. "You're a different sort, eh? That will make your death even more pointless!"

They continue to to clash as Roman says, "Staying persistent I see! Just give up, you can't beat me! I've already slaughtered many of your kind in the past!". The elf steps on his blade, ricocheting off, leaving him open for a crossbow bolt to the chest. Roman yells in pain as he tries to swing his sword but he becomes fatigued and falls to the ground. As his vision starts to blur, the elf takes off its hood to reveal itself as a female. "A woman!? I can't lose to a woman!", he thinks to himself, before he falls unconscious.

He wakes up in a round, dimly lit room made out of concrete as two hooded dark elves stand guard by the doors. "Where am I? Am I in Hell!?" "Sir, you must stay calm! We are waiting on the Mistress".

Roman grows impatient as he tries to escape, however the woman from before comes over and as Roman sees her, he goes berserk. The woman and the guards run out of the building as Roman bursts out from the top, landing in front of them as they switch directions. Roman analyzes his surroundings as he realizes he's in the caves. As the elves are running, the Mistress appears with a burst of light.

"What is going on here?" "He escaped my lady". She casts a spell on Roman, restraining him as she tries to negotiate with him. "Why would I ever listen to you traitors!? Your ancestors where speaking blasphemy about the demigods!" "Sir, you must listen! We have uncovered secrets about them that might change your mind, I beg of you!". Roman says, "What do you have that is so bad that it can undermine my loyalty to Lord Genor?"

"Come with us sir" says the Mistress. They go into a large mysterious room, away from the rest of the underground city. The room contains a large table and board where Roman sits down. "Anas, you have the files?" "Yes mistress". "So Roman, I've heard about you for a long time. You stated earlier that you are aware that the King is a demigod, yes?" "I did" "I'm not sure if you are aware but, there are separate demigods aside from him" "I am aware, the Frost King and the Mad Pharaoh"

"Well, we have created the theory that we call the Thrones Shadow theory." "Well what does this have to do with the Demigods?" "It has been recorded that there was a Great War thousands of years ago. Aplist had threatened the power of Genor, causing a dispute between one another, resulting in thousands of lives being lost."

"However, where Aplist saw a source of power, our ancestors saw a source of corruption. They sought out to bring word about the Kings corruption, however they where stopped by the Kings men and banished to the caves. While the one who started the rebellion, was captured and is being held somewhere unknown."

"Okay, but what evidence do you have about his corruption?", Roman asks. "Ever wondered why the King sent you on that mission to retrieve the Undead Chalice? Because he and two other Demigods are planning on using it to transport souls across dimensions to bring a race of apocalyptic gods to reek havoc across our dimension. I don't know if you have noticed some of your comrades go missing, but he intentionally sends you off with weaker comrades on dangerous missions."

"I knew it! And also, when did we bring dimensions into this equation?". "Okay, I shall send Anas with you and you shall see it for yourself." She puts a dagger to his throat, making sure he didn't escape, "Okay Anas, be careful with him, that dagger is meant to be used if he gets aggressive. I shall send you two off now, and after you are done, report to me. The King is still unaware of our agents, so be careful, you'll meet some of them along the way"
